Does anyone know why PC games cost almost the same price as console games do...
I understand things go up in price but PC games must be not far off double the price compared what they cost about 6 years ago

I used to love being a PC gamer when seeing the lastest PC games costing around £20 to £25 where the console version would cost around £40

Retail DVD almost going away effectively killed the low prices. Now expect to pay £39.99 minimum plus DLC so £59.99 for most new releases sometimes more like Fallout 4 is around £79.98 with season pass.

You can always shop around online to use non steam digital stores but most of those only save a few %.

Best to wait for 50-75% digital sales but even those 75% deals are getting more savvy & taking up to 18 months to appear on recent titles!

Because PC gamers felt it was wrong that console players were subsidising the cost of new games and so they all wrote to the games companies and asked them to increase the price for PC games so we all pay the same.

Also, does anyone really pay full retail price for PC games? There was a whole thread about this recently...

PC game prices for the most part are overpriced in shop. If you time a purchase with upcoming releases you will find that there's a significant price drop because the hype has gone away.

You may want to have a look at this Chrome extension:

Essentially whenever you go on the steam website it'll show you where the game is cheaper, what it was lowest price etc. I find it invaluable :)

example on the fallout 4 page just now:

I never pay full price for games, I always shop around as the prices do get a bit ridiculous at times. I bought Fallout 4 quite cheaply yesterday and even if I grab the Season Pass now (which I'm tempted to do for Far Harbour and Automatron), then entire package will still have set me back slightly less than what the PS4 retail base game goes for.

Other than a few triple AAA titles that are just not discounted(on release) I have hardly ever paid "console prices" for PC games.

In general, topic is just not true at all.

I tend not to buy new releases, for example I only bought diablo iii last night! I do like my early access stuff but usually get in on early bird Kickstarter deals anyway.last time I paid full price or near that was probably gta v, last year.

Because people pay that.

This.

I think a lot of games can be seen as good value, if you view the money spent against per hour of entertainment.

I do not mind paying 'full price' for a new game upon release if it is a game I will invest time in to.

I've never paid more than £35 for a PC game (special/collectors editions aside), even at release!

And PC games were "normally" ~£35 even 6 years ago, so I can't say I've really seen an increase

Yeah this thread is pointless. One of the many perks of PC gaming is the price of the games. However, take Dark Souls 3 Collectors Edition for an example, it is the same price as the console counterpart. Digital download sites, starting with steam have transformed PC gaming pricing.
