Why do poor people always make terrible decisions?

We see it on OCUK all the time; all the threads on ex girfriends, student houses, I lost my job, I lost my house, my kids are muslim and going back to africa with their mum (who now has a new fella)

Why do poor people make such terrible mistakes in life? Are they so poorly educated they simply get stuck in a rut?

Are there no intelligent poor people? Who aspire to be more.

Poor people tend to have more issues because they can't throw money at problems. Not that doing this solves everything, it just helps. Everyone has both bad luck and good luck but poverty makes bad luck very difficult to handle and good luck difficult to spot when it happens.

As for your last sentances, they reveal information about you not the poor.

I was reading a research paper the other day about just this, it showed that poverty could actually drop ones IQ by up to 10 points. A whole host of factors surrounded this, notable ones which spring to mind? Constant stress about money, long working hours, less sleep, poorer diet.

Intelligence is also easy to waste, don't forget that if you're raised in a low income family you have less doors open to you - worse schooling, no money for extra curriculars, family probably has no hookups.

Even if you were able to go to college and university or find some way to harness your potential, you may be required to start work at 16 and bring some money in.

Social mobility in this country is actually very poor, it's not enough to be intelligent and work hard, it doesn't work like that.

In my experience the poor don't strive to better themselves and bitterly remonstrate with you if you suggest that they do. They tell their kids that it's ok to be poor and this gives them a "don't try and can't be arsed" attitude.

Consequently they don't aim for the best. To someone who insists on better they may appear ****, but it's all relative really.

What makes you think that only poor people break up relationships? Do rich people only have 1 partner for life then?

What makes you think poor people only lose their jobs?

Why can't a rich person get made redundant and lose their house as a result?

Or am I feeding the troll ?

Rubbish, I'm poor, I come from a poor family, my first job was cleaning toilets and I strived to be better, I'm now an area manager with a nice salary.

Having no money only made me strive more.

If I grew up with money I probably wouldn't strive as hard.

The only thing that's rubbish here is your reading ability.

I said "in my experience". Can it be made any clearer that it's only in MY EXPERIENCE?

I can see it happening on mumsnet but not here; we're not imaginative enough.

e : AIBU TO RESENT DH's EX? (KIDS ARE MUSLIM, GOING BACK TO THEIR MUM IN AFRICA)
