Why do poor people love vicious dog breeds so much? It happens in every country. It can't be simply cultural because the phenomenon happens in every country in the world.

Why does kwerk post annoying threads?

"It can't be simply cultural because the phenomenon happens in every country in the world."

Nonsense.

It's a status thing anyway, and probably for the teeth/viciousness.

Because good dogs can make them money. I don't think you quite understand the kind of money that changes hands at dog fighting events. A good fighting dog is a source of pride to people in Pakistan. Everything from the Bully Kuttas, Gull Terrs to Kurdish Kangals. Or then you have the likes of the Farmers Boys from Northern Ireland who fought, bred and imported/exported dogs throughout the UK, Ireland and all over mainland Europe. In fact, most of the Pitbulls you see on the mainland UK, come through Northern and Southern Ireland. It's not illegal to own Pitbulls south of the border, so they're doc'd as "Irish Staffordshires" which is just a cover name for Pitbulls, transported into the North and then onto Liverpool or Stranraer. Good fighting dogs go for thousands of pounds. The more fights your dog wins, the more you can charge to have it roll against someone elses. The more you can charge to stud the dog out.

That's if you know what you're talking about though and have an interest in Molosser type dogs and aren't just making a thinly veiled snobbish, elitist and racist stereotypical thread...

I love Bull breeds. But they are hard work and not for everyone. They require constant stimulation, socialisation and discipline. Unfortunately, people get them as pets and neglect all three needs, or abuse them and make aggressive weapons.

If I could pull the pics off my dead phone I'd post a couple pics of my last two...

Not sure how its confined to poor people tbh... few big aggressive dogs often aren't out of place in large houses with big gates and in/out driveways...

Though if you're talking about bull terrier types - that does seem to be more of a trend at the moment - firstly it isn't too practical to keep a larger dog in a council flat and secondly its a status thing - an aggressive looking dog etc... people less likely to mess with the owner. In addition to this there have been some stories indicating that they're almost like an alternative to knives - stop & search is common in inner cities but there is nothing illegal about walking around with a bull terrier.

Why do rich white girls go for chiwawas? It's all about public perception, Pit bulls are associated with a fierce brave and powerful fighting spirit, that's the kind of image someone who would buy one wants to give to their friends and people around them, buying a cocker spaniel for this, would be pretty stupid.

I remember watching the documentary about this on bbc ni, a top gaelic football player was unmasked as a major player in the dog fighting world, the people involved were part of a rather large network spread throughout europe.

Dogs are not inherently vicious, it's almost all down to the owner.

Some breeds are naturally more aggressive than others. But if the owner mistreats any breed of dog, he can make it vicious.

Because poor people are weaklings and can only afford a dog not a gym pass.

I think you underestimate how much it costs to keep a dog. Food is the least of it. :p
