I've gone though about 6 different powerline adapter kits now in the past 2 years.

One day they will randomly not sync together and gives the host pc some random ip address.

tried everything even forcing the ip on the pc and it still will not work.

Limited access.

The only way to fix it is to replace the powerline thats on the pc.

I need a more reliable way to connect my sons pc to the internet i'm fed up of wasting money on powerline kits.

PS.

I tried nearly every make and they all do the same.

tried

belkin, tplink, trednet, d-link,

there 500mbps ones and no matter how much i spend one day they randomly wont pair.

hence y I took at very big drill to the outside wall and 30ft of ethernet for my pc.

Can't remember where i had these from but only got 1 fo teh 2 atm as the other went down the garden about 6 months ago

might be the wiring, or maybe a power surge that kills the adapters =x just a guess...

new build so wont be the wiring.

could be a surge.

Really debating going wifi he doesn't do any downloading.

any good cheapish wifi adapters?

USB or PCI?

I usually recommend Devolo. You may also have something else thats interfering with the ring main.

If in doubt - CAT5!

Work supply Devolo home plugs to homeworkers. Out of the couple of hundred out there in four years we've only had a couple of failures. Far lower than the brands we tried previously.

Have been using TP-Link PA511 500Mbps Gigabit Powerline since Jan 2012 without any problem in 3 story house. Had a couple of old style Solwise 85Mbps that overheated and failed and friend had a couple of Devolo that had same issues but again they were the old 85Mbbps so not reflective of what both companies currently offer.
