Why do some programs take ages to uninstall?

Is there a valid reason? Some programs, even games with like 10GB+ installs just insta-delete all files and entries in like a second, why can't all uninstallers be like that?

That's entirely down to how the uninstaller works and how well/poorly it was put together. For example it's not uncommon to find left over empty folders on your root drive belonging to old games you have uninstalled or to find registry entries relating to games that have been removed as well. I would rather wait a little longer and know the uninstaller is going to completely remove said game from my system.

Uninstalling software is not just about deleting files. In many cases registry entries need to be removed or altered, dlls and other bits and pieces need to be removed or unregistered.

Generally if an install took a while, uninstall will take a while too.

Games are stupidly simple - pretty much every game I have played will work if you copy the game folder to a different computer since during install all it does is copy the files [which takes time since most games are 10GB these days] and make a few shortcuts.

That removal tool, plus the one for McAfee is one of the many little tools I keep on my USB drive! :p

Why they can't get their uninstallers to run it automagically, I have no idea.
