Why do tumble dryers spin so long in one direction

And only spin a very short time in the opposite direction? Why don’t they work they same as washing machines where they change direction frequently? Bedding ends up in a great big knotted ball when it comes out of the tumble dryer and has to go back in again multiple times until it is dry.
 
Cubboard dry is more than enough, they don't need to be bone dry coming out.
Expect greta at your door tomorrow morning for not using a cloths line/horse/drying rack indoors.
The 2 clothes horses were already full of actual clothes and it’s winter so no point using the line . If it’s any consolation it’s a heat pump dryer.
