Drink as in alcohol. Why do you drink alcohol?

More specifically Im talking about going out on a bender and getting hammered. I end up ill for at least a day after and all the good memories that you may get I generally tend to forget because of the amount I drink.

I dont do this very often these days compared to when I was younger, maybe once a month but I honestly can't think of a reason why I do. I could go out and not drink, still have a good night but I just end up feeling strange without a beer in my hand. I HATE hangovers which I invariably get and I lose a day of my life afterward to recovering. Plus I generally tend to speak complete gibberish when I have had a skinful so its hardly as if I am having an engaging conversation when drunk.

Only reason I can imagine why is the fact its a "normal" thing to do. A good evening with my mates has been to go out and get drunk and it just seems to be a social norm to an extent. I dont really know :p

Just been thinking about this for the last hour so was wondering why you go out and get hammered? Or if you even do it at all.

I never get hammered simply because I don't want to spend ridiculous amount of money just for 1 night... I'd spend probably £50 max on alcohol...

I drink because I enjoy drinking while socialising with people..
I also enjoy beer every once in a while alone..

I only get hammered on special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries etc. with friends. If I'm out at the pub with a couple of mates, I won't drink to get hammered.

Sometimes getting hammered is plain fun.

Getting hammered is for kids that don't know any better. We've all done it and all regretted it.

However, getting mildly sozzled enjoying a drink you really appreciate is where it's at. Much more enjoyable and no hangover.

I drink because I like the taste. Always white wine.

I got quite hammered two weeks ago which was the first time in about... 3 years :p If I do get hammered it's because it tastes nice and I just end up having too much. I never drink to get drunk so to say. Stopped doing that when I was 15!

I never drink for the sole purpose of getting 'hammered'. Never have either. I once accidentally got drunk because I didn't know my limits and was young.

However, I drink a lot of wine because I enjoy the taste and enjoy trying different varieties of grape etc. There's also the bonus of it being good for you.

Nothing worse than a drunk person, so damn annoying and makes people so stupid things.

i drink because i enjoy being drunk

i never drink till the point of passing/blacking out and not remembering things though... thats for kids

1- I'm not a pussy, so i'm not ill for a day. Man up tbh :p
2- Getting drink as the proverbial skunk can be great fun. Definitely not often, and definitely not to the point that I pass out on the street somewhere, but still fun.

3-As Spie said, the secret is to get sozzled. Drink your pints of guiness and your favorite spirit. Be tipsy, be merry. Alcohol really does lubricate social situations and makes for a substantially more pleasant experience.

Alcohol = best proof of God :D

I'm in my mid-thirties and I can't say that I've ever been "hammered".

I do have a few drinks in social situations but I've never seen the point in drinking to excess and hence feeling lousy the next day. It also helps that I don't like any of the spirits I've tried and with beer and wine I've normally decided I've had enough by the time I'm only mildly merry, certainly not enough to give me a hangover the next day ...

I don't get drunk except on rare occasions (only house parties tbh, don't trust random people out in town) and I don't much enjoy drink unless I've had quite a bit, only drink to get "drunk", more socially at ease, whatever. So, I rarely drink at all, and if I do it'll be a fair bit.

i've quit drinking now, 11 weeks since booze passed my lips, not sure if I miss it or not tbh, I don't think about it so I guess not.

Late twenties and I don't drink to get hammered anymore. For one, as you get older the hangovers get worse and are nothing like when you are 18.

Secondly, as others have pointed out, getting hammered is something you do more so when you are young. University being the prime example. I remember the first two weeks of freshers week getting drunk every night... yet not feeling it!

I think it's more a right of passage.

I quite like the taste of an ice cold pint in a frosted glass, after a hard days work.

Don't get hammered that often to be honest just nicely merry/drunk.

I only drink on special occasions now.
I used to drink a few times per week just while I was out but I seem to have grown out of that and prefer to stay home and save my money to put towards something else.

Getting smashed is a waste of time and a pointless exercise. All you get from it is pain. Gentle intoxication is quite a pleasurable experience so long as you know when to stop.

Since I quit drinking I've found a pint of lemonade to be a good substitute for a pint of beer. It doesn't leave you sitting there with an empty hand whilst everyone else sips their lager/ale/guinness.
