Why do you drink?

I dont drink. Its abit odd, just never had any desire to drink, dont think about it, dont care about it, dont like the taste of most of it. I think in the last 2 years I have probably had 2 drinks hah.

Pretty much this, Having just come back from a party where I had a bit too much, waking up with a mouth that feels like carpet is not fun. However the party was good and I can remember all of it.:D
 
I tend to only drink when out with friends, don't particularly like the taste so rarely bother when at home. I never feel I miss alcohol, so I doubt I'd ever drink if it wasn't for people around me doing the same. Getting stupidly hammered was fun a couple of times, it quickly loses its appeal when the next day is ruined for a few hours you can't even remember.
 
i'll only have a couple of very cold cans with a curry and thats about it. binge drinking, being drunk and out of control disgusts me. get them off alcohol and onto "something" that should be legalised... you would have more nicer people :)
 
I must confess.. when I go out, which is usually once a month, I go out to get drunk. I love socialising and I find booze helps the process. lol, I usually end up chatting crap to people I wouldn't normally talk to! which can be embarrassing when ya see em in the week! I also end up having a few cigs, which personally I do feel bad for doing the next morning..

I don't drink to excess anymore though, like being sick or anything. happy drunk is great. and I know my limit which helps. so I drink because I enjoy it. :p
 
Unlike most of my friends i rarely drink till i am hammered. I much prefer to drink while socialising enjoying a good pint rather than drinking crappy alcopops in a club where you cant hear yourself think.

Getting sozzled is fun though :)
 
I rarely drink, I don't much see the point, I definitely don't see the point of doing it on a daily or even weekly basis. People invariably act like idiots when they're drunk I don;t like being an idiot or talking to idiots.
 
Interesting thread....a wide range of replies as well.

I dont drink and what fascinates me is the money side of it with some of my friends. Ive got mates who say "Im skint" but yet dont blink when buying alcohol. £50 on a weekend not uncommon. Every weekend. £200/mo on booze. Money that they will literally urinate away later hahaa.

I think this is the same group of people who are neck deep in debt...but go on vacation anyway. Funny world!

No.

Idiotic people use drink as an excuse when they are being even more of an idiot. And by the same token - I know just as many sober idiots as drunk ones - in fact, I would say there are more idiots in my day-day life at work, as there are drunk idiots out on the town at night.

I drink often - every day in fact for the last 20 years probably. Usually 1-2 pints most nights during the week - and 4 or 5 Friday & Saturday nights.

I can get reasonably drunk and fall asleep. I can also get drunk and be hilarious, foolish, funny, retrospective or more creative than when I'm sober. Very rarely (once every 3-4 years) I will drink excessively and become what you probably mean by idiotic (usually when something bad has happened).

In fact most people I know say I become more quieter and boring the more I drink - I don't get aggresive and don't shout/throw things etc (definately not an idiot) - so saying people become idiotic when they are drunk, is like saying people who smoke dope are lazy wasters, who achieve nothing.

I generally drink to put up with other drunk people, I sometimes quite like getting hammered though, not gonna lie.

I'm not saying there aren't exceptions but it's a fact that alcohol inhibits your brain functions and basically makes people dumber... I guess it is personal choice but I just don't really see much benefit to getting tipsy or drunk.

To relax and enjoy and have a laugh, getting to the point now when I need a whole day to recover last week was best man at a wedding and was drinking for 12 hours on the Saturday and the Tuesday I felt normal, did 6 days on a lads holiday and that did me in, I am only 27 but drinking what I drink is not healthy, much perfer to go t'pub and have 7 pints then a kebab than shots and shorts.

Not only that a hangover now makes me paranoid and depressed, when I was 20 I could work 8 hours the next day hungover no problem.
