Why do you overclock?

Nothing like taking a 1.43GHz CPU and persuading it to give me twice the performance. Without any extra outlay.

To me, that's what overclocking is all about.

Because i keep getting stomped.
Heh-heh-heh... I remember the days fondly. :D

I OC because I have an X2 3800 for the price of an X2 2800.
In previous systems, we could have another 50~100 units each in Red Alert 2 before it got really slow.
Games which were slightly juddery were no-longer juddery.
As Joe42 advised - I got my WU time down for SETI Classic.
Video's encoded 10~20% faster.
FPS in games went up a bit.
It's fun, simple to do and gets me a quicker machine.

Generally games are the main thing to stress your PC.
Most noticable GFX Card overclocks etc.
When doing a lot of 'work' on the PC - That's when you >notice< the speed difference.
Not sure if it's the placebo effect to a certain extent, but waiting less time for the PC to do it's thing is always good. :)

An interesting viewpoint for someone with whose GFX/CPU/Mobo/RAM alone has a combined retail price in excess of £900!

I didn't 'buy' my 7950gx2 tho, it was a replacement for a 7800gtx and the p5wdh was a replacement for a p5bdlx. The conroe and ram were purchased through the sale of my older skt 939 setup, I didn't pay anywhere close to £900 for my current rig. ;)

Are you still running seti? If not, the folding team would love the pleasure of your company... ;)
Its just like the old seti classic days, lots of competition going on at the moment is making it quite enjoyable.
