Why does copying files from a dvd take so long?

At 16x it should take about 3 mins to copy 4gb off a dvd. However my pc takes about 15mins!

1. if it's video files, then DVD drives are limited in the read speed. I think it's to annoy people who rip them. A patched firmware might remove the speed limitation.
2. 16x is the max speed of the DVD drive and that's at the outer edge of the disc. The drive will be slower nearer the spindle, probably ~5x

Blu-ray and clv just can't come fast enough!
