Why does every PSU/Mobo make an annoying screechy sound?

10+ years ago they would be perfectly silent, however the past several years every single one I buy ends up making these annoying sounds. I've tried wood glue on coils and replacing capacitors but it doesn't help one bit. Like why does it make it worse when I click and drag a window around?

Just led to me having to build a M-ITX rig and whacking it in a cupboard.

Is it because everything is made in China now to why we have **** quality components?

Sick of it.

People have made more noise (pun not intended) about coil whine in recent years, but as ThaReaperGuy says, it doesn't affect every component.

I've got a reference HD7950, and let me say the coil whine on this thing is horrendous. It's to the point where I can hear it ticking whilst playing YouTube videos...

It's been through three power supplies in its time, an XFX 750W, Antec 550W and currently a Corsair HX620. None made a difference.

No single make, every single thing I buy from Gigabyte, Asus, ASRock, Corsair, Enermax etc etc.

Maybe I'm just getting unlucky but I sent back my PSU 3 times now with no luck, just got a refund, never buying Corsair PSUs again.

I have only ever had coil whine once...and that was from a AMD 290 from Sapphire , although it was a problem with a batch of cards as I understood it at the time...other than that never had any issues :)

Never had an issue.

Corsair HX520 before and now RM850. Super Flower Leadex in other pc.
EVGA GTS 8800 (i think), Gigabyte GTX780ghz, OCUK Reference 970
Asus and Gigabyte mobo's.

More people are reporting it and it can affect most components. Just luck of the draw I guess like the Silicon Lottery.

I've never had issues with PSU, but then again I've only had Seasonic units bar my first PSU but that was fine as well ;)

Only whining I get is from my GPU sometimes at loading screens

I've bought in the region of 20+ PSUs over the past 2 years for various builds and I haven't encountered one yet that suffers coil whine. I only ever buy quality units though..
