I really don't get it seriously, whats everyones problem with the Wii on here ?, I'm tired of reading post after post saying that the Wii is just a fad, the same was said of the DS when it came out, I remember loads of people saying the whole touch screen thing was a mistake now look at it, it has the worst graphics yet outsells the PSP 2/1 or more, and allso the Wii was never trying to be next gen in regards to the graphics, right from the start and even in the early press confrences Nintendo said their ultimate goal was to create a fun innovative cheap gaming console that's fun for all the familiy and think they have succeded, I could never see my mum playing burnout on my 360 ffs  , allso to whoever does it, stop comparing the Wii to the PS3/360, the main reason why it's selling so well atm is because it's not really in direct competition with them, it fills a gap that the PS3/360 can't reach in terms of familiy entertainment, the Wii is more like a suppliment that you can add along side your big daddy console, I can guarantee their are more people that own both Wii and a 360 or PS3 than their are that own a 360 and a PS3, I think that is helping Wii sells alone,

End of the day I think eveyone is gonna be in for a big suprise ingards to Wii sales, this thread might come back and bite me in the bum but I really don't see Wii sales slowing down anytime soon.

There are different types of gamers, and yes the Wii appeals to the gamers that want to play games with their mums.

As opposed to shutting themselves away in the bedroom of their mums house on the Xbox 360 their mum bought them.

Yeah, pretty much. Although I bought my 360 with my University loan money while living it rented accommodation, whereas the OP has definitely played Wii with his mother. ;)

The Wii is the modern day board game, bringing families together for games that anyone can play. That's how I see it anyway :).

I agree and I'd like one.

There's one problem, modern family board games don't cost £180 + c£40 for just one more controller.

For what it is I think it's overpriced and reading constant reports about how Nintendo are currently basking in record profits only reinforces this belief.

Very good analogy indeed

I still think the wii is too expensive for what it is though (and the games too for that matter).

In my eyes the cost of the PS3 is huge, but you are getting upto the date technology that even now is still pretty rare (a year after launch)

The X360 is a decent price for newish technology, vdecent for a console but everydayish for a pc (which most of its innards are based around) and so round about the right price - addon hardware not included lol

the wii being roughly the same price as the x360 is horrendous price being pretty old hardware and technology in a .....not even shiny, new box.

I agree its a good buy because of the games I just think if Sony /MS can do much higher quality games (as in visual and audio) then surely the wii games should be less expensive (at least £5 less maybe even £10) and the console should be <£150 imo and then it would be a great buy. This is the one factor that has stopped me buying it so far.

I don't rate the wii played on me sisters and for the life of me i can't see what all the fuss is about, ok the controler is unusual but the novelty of that would soon wear off for me and then i would be stuck with a console i would never play again, i know mates that went mad for them and hardly use them now the novelty has worn off.

Pretty much spot on. I dont have a problem with it. My wife loves hers and her mum plays her on it. Its a very social toy. My wife isnt interested in gaming at all normally but she was giving Res evil a try the other night.

For me the only problem with the Wii is the amount of pap on the system to find a decent game that uses the controls well. Its taken far too long to get to anything decent.

Look through all the ign and gamespot reviews for the wii games. Very very few decent scoring games with lots scoring 6 or less.

The Wii isnt for gamers, or its for 'wannabe gamers'. I'm not saying its a fad or anything, but nintendo seem to be losing touch with their hardcore fanbase, they are milking mario and introducing nonsense like the wii fit.

Fair enough if it gets them sales, they are a business at the end of the day, but as a gamer I am starting to distance myself from nintendo.

One word, simplicity.

Ok so the hardware is not state of the art, and they make a profit on each unit sold. Big deal, so does virtually every other company selling hardware. Its affordable, fun, different and simple. The games are cheaper than any other format and generally require less thought thus making thier games more appealing to the average person. More importantly its a niche that none of the other console makers have filled, as a result of that i strongly support nintendos move.

You may not like it, you may think its overpriced (when some of those who think this can justify £400 for a PS3, irony++), but frankly the rest of the world, myself and many others on this forum, don't.

Its an excellent product at an affordable price and at present has titles that appeal to me more than either of the 2 most recent consoles.

[edit]

That is the most rubbish i have ever heard, i'm a gamer, have been and always will. Nintendo are among the best at creating "easy to learn, hard to master" games, which are the elements most important to make a truely excellent game (strikers would be my first example, i'm sure as usual mariokart will also follow the same high standards).

McDaniels the only pro Gaymer on here :p

Although I like what Nintendo have done with the Wii, Its not a route I would like to see others follow. Less cutting edge and pushing the hardware.

mario is nintendo's hardcore following

As for the price id rather pay £180 for old technology that im gonna get a lot of use out of and enjoy lots than pay £180 for new technology that im not bothered about as that would not be value for money for me.

In terms of technology the Wii isnt great Value, in terms of fun, ease of use, good times etc etc etc its the best value around

I have nothing against the wii its innovative and fun, great analogy about the boardgame btw because thats what i see it as. Its great for socialising, however the majority of games imo lack depth (not all as there are some very good games) I just feel if Microsoft and Sony get the motion controllers out in the market (i read somewhere that its rumoured they're in the works) then what is the wiis backup strategy. The other two can fall back on their power but the wii has only one strategy and fair enough so far its worked but i think a lot more needs to go into creating new 1st party titles away from the likes of zelda and mario to really give the wii more substance. However its a moot point if the motion tech for the 360 and ps3 turns out to be rubbish and not as well implemented as the wii (think sixaxis)...just my 2 cents.

It seems to me that its mainly 13-19 year old Western males who dont like the Wii because its not realistic/manly enough and can affect their image.
At the end of the day its only the characters and colours that Nintendo use that alienate these people, and a lot of the games cutness derives from Japanese culture anyway.

I also remember the days when I had to hide any games console/computer from my mates when they came round my flat, it wasnt something you admitted to your mates from footy or the pub, and I was probably the last person they expected to have a Snes or Playstation tucked away and god forbid a computer of any sort.
It was only really the Playstation and PS2 and PC with more realistic violent games that made gaming acceptable, and there is still a lot of snobbery from the PC crowd with regards to driving sims.

It's all a bit wierd really.
