Plus being non-HD means an 1.5x is actually 1.5 times. The jump to HD resolutions requires 4 times the memory just for the frame buffer etc. and requires 4x the memory bandwidth to shift the data.


So the wii should provide nicer graphics than the GC, we just haven't seen this yet. games like MP3 and Mario Galaxy should show what it is capable of.

Paying my own way through uni sucks, but it's something I feel I need to do... but my will does waver at times like this. Anyway, I'm off to nap for a bit I think.
 
The funny thing is that PS2 has the most inferior graphic of the last generation consoles yet it outsold them by miles. Even Gamecube's better graphic didn't do Nintendo any favour.

Nintendo had given up the graphic race, went down a different route and now look at what their 'inferior' Wii has done for them!

2nd generation - Most inferior console won - PS2

3rd generation - Too early, though Wii currently outsell PS3 and 360 - Wii happens to be the most inferior console of this generation!

At the end of day, it seemed to me that not that many people care about graphic.

Why put better in inverted commas? They were better.
 
wii = for casual gamers
ocuk = for hardcore component overclockers and gfx whores.

thats why everyone disses the wii, because its not aimed at "us", and because they know it is not what we want...

they are fun, in a "yes-id-like-a-boxing-work-out" for like half an hour. but when longevity and depth come into play, it is lacking a bit.

still i was atcually impressed by the ease of navigation, web browsing and general UI.

i think the Wii2 with more depth and precision and horsepower could be the cornerstone for previously
 
the wii may outsell the other consoles by a lot, but then its under half price of a ps3, so they have to sell over twice as many just to make the same amount of money. i played on a wii on non wii games (like cod3 and zelda) and i didnt like the new control at all, but I assume it will be very good with wii only games like tennis etc. I looked into the wii, but to me its just an overclocked gamecube with a fancy controller. It M$ made one for the 360 the wii would go under.
Still i liked the idea of one but when I found out it didnt even play dvds or run HD I was put right off. The wii is a great console for 2004, when it should have been released as it is way outdated and the graphics look crap already.

nintendo spent 4/5 years making a controller, they did bugger all to the console.

You haven't taken into consideration profit of hardware. Nintendo might be making £80 on every console and Sony might only be making £60 on every console. By selling twice as many Wii's Nintendo have now made £100 more than Sony as an example.

I don't think it would go under. I honestly don't think it would have much of an effect on Nintendo.

They should have made it play DVD's, why they didn't I don't know, possibly to do with audio and video outputs etc...

Have you even considered the cost to nintendo for parts may be lower than sonys? Infact if you were to even spend 5 mins looking into this you would find sony makes a loss on every PS3 sold, and nintendo make money for each unit.

So, how many Wiis does the nintendo have to sell to equal sonys profit for PS3s? None, well actually, they would have to give them away for free to equal the amount of money sony make on thier hardware.

Nintendo profiteering doesnt really help the consumer however!

It would have increased the cost of the console to have licensed it to play DVD's, it has nothing to do with hardware. The logic is that everyone already has a DVD player so why increase the price by adding a function you already have covered in another device.

As many people here have stated, the Wii is the only console set up in the living room permanantly for them, as a result I'd have said the ability to have it play DVD's would be a strong one.

Most people I know have had a standalone DVD player in their living room for years. *shrug* I'm glad not to have paid extra for something I already have covered.

A lot of people do, that is true. But then why do Sony and Microsoft put them in theres? They are the ones that carry out market research and therefore there must be a reason to, which is my point. :).
I'd have just liked a diddy little DVD player tbh :p.
