Why does everyone diss the Wii ?, step inside............

the wii may outsell the other consoles by a lot, but then its under half price of a ps3, so they have to sell over twice as many just to make the same amount of money..

You know, sometimes I wish my thought process was as simple as this. Would make life's ponderables a lot less complicated.

I always get the impression Nintendo would be better of sticking to handhelds and making games for the other two in the console market. They dont attract as much third party support as the other two and the stuff they do attract is often poorly done, hopefully this will actually change now the the wii is popular.

There's only been the GameCube as a major console release that wasn't, or couldn't be classed as 'popular'. I was never under any doubt that the Wii would struggle, infact prior to all 3 being released I prophisised on here that the Wii would run away with it. :D

I'm pretty sure they still make a profit after it all, I seem to remember a hoo-haa about it all.

Their gaming department is still a billion dollars in debt, so the profit depends on how it is stated.

Sales wise IIRC it was as popular as the Xbox, but these forums always warp things as someone already pointed out the bias tends to be towards the technically better machines.

Edit: you should have bought Nintendo shares

I believe GameCube was trounced in game sales though.

There was a good theory somewhere about Nintendo's own games being their own worst enemy in that respect. Meaning developers knew they couldnt compete so many didnt bother, and Nintendo's internal policy's were not always developer friendly, they have and are still learning from a lot of mistakes.

I'm pretty sure Nintendo made more profit form the GC overall than MS did form the Xbox. But then profit wasn't MS idea.

I love the wii. Paid well over the odds before xmas to secure, played it through the xmas holidays into the new year...

...and now never even power it on :|

says it all i think.

I really don't get it seriously, whats everyones problem with the Wii on here ?

Personally (and I know a few who share this), I find it a bit boring and the whole virtual experience doesn't keep me interested for very long. I would rather go out with my family and friends (and we do) and partake in some RL activities (bowling/tennis etc) than play them on a Wii.

It depends on the sorts of games you like as well as your family/friends whether the Wii would be interesting to you.

*I know the thing is cheap and not a competitor to the 360/PS3, it has never tried to be in the next gen sense, but they could have made more effort with the graphics.

For any games and ports where graphics can play an important part of the games atmosphere and playability, the Wii fails. And looking at the catalogue of games, there are quite a few of these. But that then, is not a failure in the product so much as the choice to port such games for this console.

(I haven't read all the other posts, but thought I would chip in my thoughts)

The problem with the Wii for me is the games. They just don't appeal. A few do, but not just enough. And very few new games that I want are in stores yet.

Why not compare the Wii to the 360 or PS3? They are all video game consoles. It may not be apples to apples, but if you can afford one piece of fruit, you still have to pick between an apple, orange, banana etc.

It's features may be a little gimmicky, like the DS, but if great games come out for it, who cares. Just to give an example, there isn't much advantage in having 2 screens. One big one might be better, but games have worked with it and made things different in a good way. Other things like the touch screen on the DS have proven to be great for so many game types.

I think many people are just unhappy with the Wii because they think the games could be better, as the system just has SOOOO much potential.

But hey, ever system has its flaws, and just as many 'diss' the other systems.

The games could be better, and indeed the games will be better.

It is early days. Look at the line up coming out over the next year. More than enough AAA games for me. And now game develppers are realizing the potential and are diverting money from PS3 development to wii development.

The wii will end up very good for games i think. There will still be lots of shoddy 3rd party titles, movie franchises and feeble attempts at utlising the controller or lazy graphics development.

However, there will be many great games, some stupendously great games, and probably a few games that will go down in the history books (perhaps MP3 or mario galaxy). Nintendo have a nack of producing genre define titles, and console generation best games.

The N64 had Mario64, Banjo and Kazooie, Goldeneye, Zelda OOT. These are regarded as some of the greatest 3D games of all time. The GC offered less, but games like RE4 were probsably the best games of any console in the last generation.

This was discussed up there ^ :).

Nintendo did make a profit from the GameCube as they manufactured with profit from day one, however the console was not a success, certainly not in comparison to every other mainstream console offering they've made.

a lot can be said for accessibility. Since the Wii came out i've been having plenty of gaming sessions with people i've known for years and years who have never shown any interest or willingness to play video games before. And yes, that does include my mum :p

Above all else the Wii is a social gamers console, and is superb for when you've got a bunch of friends round and the drinks start flowing. Even the ladies like it. The same can't be said for my PS3, which literally hasn't been switched on for weeks. When it was I was sitting on my tod in the dark playing games that were boringly familiar. Quite a difference to Wii sessions involving 5-10 people at a time, all wiggling about and looking like **** :)

i ,along with other people on this forum have been playing games for a long time ,but find it difficult to pick up a wii pad and play games on it ,
why is that ???
