a little help please :-)

I'm confused as to why GPU-Z is saying that one card is at x16 and the other is at x8... anyone any ideas?

They are on the the Asrock Extrme 7 Gen 3 mobo which allows x16 / x16 SLI... They are in slots 1 and 4 as per the manual :-s.

I have a Xonar DX in the last PCI slot but that cant be making a difference surely as its a x1 card :-s.

Thanks?

It doesn't matter what speed card you put in the last x16 slot it'll still divert the full 8 lanes away from the second GTX 580.

Take the sound card out and the second GTX 580 will jump up to x16.

Either live with x8 (it makes sod all difference) or move the sound card to the x1 slot between the graphics cards.

If you believe it should run at x16 x16 mode according to the manual of the mobo, then get some load on both cards and see if it's x16 x16. The readings taken when idle cannot be regarded as the max speed supported as nvidia cards can reduce pci-e speed for power saving purposes.
