why does my camera have dc-in?

most cameras have them it means you can power it off the mains when copying pictures off to save the battery or in other cases you can control the camera from the PC for things like timelapse shooting where mains power would be very useful.

Very few camera makers actually chip the mains adapter with the camera.

I would pay to have that actually >_>, too bad some manufacturers don't think the same (hello Canon).

They assume you should have a dedicated memory card reader, but then why the EOS Utility software that allows you to transfer images directly from the camera and automatically categorises them into folders specified by dates, which is a brilliant ideas, kinda rendering the card reader useless (1 more quirk with canon DSLRs is if you open the CF compartment door, some camera settings go back to default!).

And if you go on a long trip, when you come back and plug your camera into the computer, pray your battery has enough life left before it cuts power off during transferring.

So there you go, a power port would actually be very nice to have on the camera body.
