Why does my PC keep getting BSOD - power issue?

So I've just bought Grand Theft Auto 4 and am pleasantly surprised by it's performance. However after 20mins of play, I have twice now had a complete system crash. Screen goes wappy, odd noise from speakers, quick BSOD screen, and then a restart.

It was also doing this recently occasionally whilst encoding MP4's via Handbrake. I therefore conclude that it can't be my video card, and must be either:

My CPU overclock is too high - but always fine other than this, bench tested when first overclocked for 24 hours (and since) without error, and core temps never exceed 75 absolute MAX.

My PSU is not powerful enough - but is Coolermaster M620, peak power of 700w, continuous of 620w. Other than CPU, GPU, 2 HDDs, optical drive, and 4 fans, that's it.

Any thoughts? Was really starting to get into GTA4 :D

It's probably the OC. Some games can bring out weaknesses that stress tests don't. Try turning it down to 3.8.

As Mattus says, it maybe the OC. The only way you'll tell is if you eliminate the OC by running back at stock settings. If all works well after resetting back to stock and after a stress test then you can point fingers at the OC. If there are still problems then you'll need to start looking at your PSU.

How to check your PSU

How to stress test your system

In these cirumstances, i find the event log can be useful. Sometimes in can be as simple as an application error causing the problem. What OS are you using?

Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.

To be honest I have done some further research, and it appears that this might be a GTA4 issue. Other users have reported similar problems if Googled.

Still, doesn't explain the Handbrake crashes, so will resort to stock clocks, and see how I get on. Thanks for the advice.
