Why does the 360 spin the drive while idle?

So you've just turned your 360 on and it's booted to dashboard but why the hell does the drive keep on spinning?

Yeah once you've launched a game from HDD it stops spinning, but you can sit on the dashboard for 30 minutes listening to it spin.

It happens with anything, game, dvd, audio.

My BenQ definitely idles when in the dash.

I have hitatchi and benq and they both do it.

And for PiKe's sake my BENQ has not been surgically opened up.

The only noise you can hear in the video is the 360.

Ignore the first 10 seconds I had my thumb over the mic. You hear with the first 360 it just keeps spinning. Where as my 2nd 360 spins it down after a while.
