Why does the 360 spin the drive while idle?

How loud is it? Are you still talking the same amount of drive noise as when you are playing a game from disc?

Mine spins at 1x speed (I think). I only notice it has stopped spinning as when I launch the game you hear the drive spin down to silence and a little "click".

The only noise you can hear in the video is the 360.

Well, it's a moot point as it depends on the quality of the device you are using to record. Normally you get some background interference, or distortion of the source sound itself.

I only noticed a slight change in the vid, but I cant say I've ever noticed even that with mine at home. As far as I've always been aware it spins up to recognise the disc then stops unless you play the game.

You'd think with all their endless pockets / talent, they'd be able to design the system to shut the heck up. Though i have a 360, hardware wise i have to dig deep to think of anything else from a design standpoint that's been a bigger POS.

i thought i would check my Elite and guess what it does spin lol

Its 100% spinning because on dashboard you can hear it, then when u eject it slows down.

Doesn't it say in the manual, never move the console while there is a disc in the drive, or is this just when playing a game. I know my friend moved his 360 the day GOW1 came out and it put a 0.5mm deep scratch round the edge of the disc. Gutted
