Why does Vista do this?

On my laptop if you lock the computer and log back in, Vista terminates the wireless connection and reconnects after about 20 seconds. It is hugely frustrating and Windows 7 didn't have the same problem.

Any ideas on how to disable it?

Try disabling power saving on the wireless card in device manager.

sounds like its doing it to save power when you are away from the laptop.
