Whats the average booting time? about 20 seconds for it to stay on the windows 7 splash screen? I timed mine this morning. It took, here we go,
1 minute 30s

something not right. i did a fresh isntall and it was like it on the last install, so its something hardware related. it gets to the point where the splash screen stops moving. anyone hazard a guess as to whats wrong?

nope. gfx is geforce 5200, sound is creative SB Audigy, CPU is P4 Prescott (@3.3ghz), mobo is asrock p4v88. C Drive is a samsung something or other. 3.5GB of RAM is 2 kingstons, 1gb something else and 512mb something else. cant remember.

it all runs windows fine, fairly quick, OS is in good nick. Its just booting that takes forever.

yeah the ram is running in single channel, but its better to have 3.5gb of single channel than 2gb of dual channel right?

The hd shouldnt be slow, its a SATA II (although jumpered to 1.5 for the mobo) at 7200rpm

is there anything in the bios id have enabled/disabled to slow it down?

Can't see you running much on a P4 prescott very well where you'd need more than 2GB to be honest.

How old is that HDD?

Hd is only about a year old, and a it was used for before i put it in mine was for dumping data do it so it hasnt been stressed. It was doing the same thing on an older ide before this anyway on a different install.

umm, guess i sorted the problem.

All i did was reset my bios with default settings so there mustve been something there.

I also ran a few superpi tests with dual channel 2gb and single channel 3.5gb ram, turns out dual channel was about 4seconds quicker. i think i have a dodgy stick though which is why it was running slower. now the pc boots in less than a minute like it should.
