hi everyone im setting up my small home network, i have windows 7 on my desktop and vista on my laptop, i can access files via both so im happy i have set it up ok the main problem is when im using my laptop and go into network then click on my desktop i can access the "user" folder which contains Liam & Public. I dont want to share the folder "Liam" only the Public folder but im having great problems trying not to share the "Liam" folder. I go to C:\users\liam right click the folder then sharing and then advanced sharing which is unticked, but I am still able to access this folder through my laptop, its showing the network path as liam-desktop\users\liam any ideas why i cant stop sharing the folder?

hope you can help

thanks again

windows 7 ?

next..

Real helpful post there...

As fabkat said, instead of changing the sharing permissions, you need to change the security permissions, only add your username, system & administrators. Don't set "Everyone" to deny, as that takes priority, locking you out completely!

You'll find that the contents of "Liam" are not visible although the folder itself is visible. Once you log in with the local user's password you'll only then be able to view its contents.

Standard behaviour for Windows Vista/7 when viewing connected network shares.

As well as this you may have logged into Liam as that local user at some point and saved the credentials to Windows (Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage Credentials) in which case the contents will be visible without any prompt. Remove the credential from the client machine and the contents will no longer be visible by default.
