Instead of telling us to star out swear words, why not go one step further and simply censor them and completely stop them appearing?

I do not see the point of the starring out system.

Who agrees?

They do star thme out, but only individual words.
When contained within other words they occur
So the above town for example c-word is starred, but no one thought to add *c-word, or c-word* or *c-word* to the filter. So words can contain them, but not all of them.

Ahhh! But what exactly is a "Swear" word anyway?

Is it the word itself or the context in which it is used?

Used just for effect the definition makes a certain sense but Most (All?) "Swear" words can be used in a correct grammatical, semantic and contextual manner and would still, nevertheless, be considered "bad language"

Why is that?? ;)

OP - I don't agree. By not censoring swear words it's then entirely on the poster to ensure they're happy with the content of the post before hitting submit. If posts were censored automatically people would assume it's the forum that's got a problem with it rather than the members. I don't need to read swear words, I'd rather people avoided them and if I want a forum like GD but full of swearing I'll head over to MN/AIBU*. The OCUK forum, even the GD section is a bastion of non-text, non-swearing, it's a rare tranquil spot for some of us.

*confident a few people on here will know what I'm on about.

And yet there are some words that do get starred out like ****
I wrote the word and it got starred.

I like to use it when I post for example 'Don't slag me off' which isn't an offensive word.
Obviously calling somebody a **** is offensive but if that gets starred out why aren't other words?
