I wonder why OcUK doesn't stock the AMD 4850e![]()
Tell me more please Headrat, I'm quite interested in Low Power computers but went the undervolted Core2 Duo path instead of AMD.this is a great CPU for a low power HCPC,
Hmmm that doesn't sound great to me?AMD 4850e runs at stock 1.15volts 45watts so pretty good
Hmmm that doesn't sound great to me?
Here's an old E6300 Core 2 Duo running undervolted/underclocked and its reading 16 watts at full load. . .

Its the ASUS EPU program that accompanies the new p5q motherboards - its an energy saving tool that works with the motherboard to cut down on energy usage by underclocking/turning off hard drives etc. Im not 100% sure, but my guess is it only works with the ASUS motherboards with the 'EPU 6 engine' tech.
Tell me more please! Like how much roughly would a nice low power AMD CPU and motherboard cost? For the INTEL side of things your looking at about £140 for a Wolfdale/Eaglelake combo . . . . I'm sure AMD may well be able to do better!better than intel only due to the 780g needing an AMD chip, great pairing, cheap and silent.
I was quite suprised when I saw how much extra power the computer needed when running a big overclock! I started off with a simple plug in power/brick/meter thingy, they cost about £10 and show you a variety of information from wattage draw, PSU efficiency, running costs etc etcit would be interesting to see how much effect my OC has on its power draw. If its not, know of any alternatives?
Yeah I think your right although there are different versions of the EPU i.e EPU-4 engine which controls slightly less hardware than the EPU-Six engine. I had the EPU-6 engine but due to not owning an ASUS branded GPU mine was actually working as an EPU-5 engine . . .lol I hope that makes sense!Im not 100% sure, but my guess is it only works with the ASUS motherboards with the 'EPU 6 engine' tech.
