Why doesn't OcUK stock 4850e

Yeah, I got most of my htpc kit from OCuk apart from the 4850e. Its daft they don't stock it, as it is the natural accompaniment to 780G boards like the OCuk one I purchased.

Also they need to get the newer Antec Fusions in.

you cant just look at cpu power consumption, thats only one part of the story, you've got to look at the power consumption of the whole platform. intel haven't got much here especially with the performance of the 780g graphics.

Yup we know that! :D

Haven't had the chance to play with a 780G platform yet, how are you finding it? I'd be curious to know how the AMD Platform performs and how much power it uses compared to say an ASUS/INTEL board using the G43/G45 Express chipset mixed in with the ASUS EPU

Its the ASUS EPU program that accompanies the new p5q motherboards - its an energy saving tool that works with the motherboard to cut down on energy usage by underclocking/turning off hard drives etc. Im not 100% sure, but my guess is it only works with the ASUS motherboards with the 'EPU 6 engine' tech.

needs the epu chip and doesnt work when the system is overclocked

I built my dad a 4850e based HTPC, nice little chip, shame I had to buy it else where, would be nice to see OcUK stocking them.

You can make virtually any rev2/3 Brisbane run like an 'e' variant.

My old 5000+ Black Edition runs my trading box, 1.8GHz at 0.8volts passive cooled - with an SD hard disk, no CD/DVD drive the system consumes about 20w at idle and peaks around 55w, and is silent. :D
