im running my pc on a 42 inch HDTV which i bought from a nice little website which i cant name for forum reasons.
i use this now instead of my 19 inch monitor as the size is brilliant for games etc

i am connected by VGA as my card only permits VGA, so i havent got the old HDMI on the razz but seriously, all games etc look fing sweet and all that
i was just wondering, apart from reasons like ghosting on the old televisions, why dont ppl use tvs? they appear cheaper then monitors half their size!

obviously theres like response rates and all that, but i never notice that on here :S

most people have them set up on a desk with a chair and a 42 is just too big that close. If you have your pc set up more like a console with a nice comfy chair a few feet from the screen then a big tv makes more sense.

I started using a 40" lcd at 1080 and it was great and first but I wanted better image quality from 2 feet away.

The dodgy thing is I got a benq 24" led from ocuk and it ghosts on fifa 10 when the cheap accoustic solutions lcd tv doesn't!

I chop and change between a monitor, tv and projector.

why do people use lcd tv's when they could use projectors?

I use a 22" TV, and I can say its nice for gaming. But the refresh rate feels slow at times. Struggle to play fast pace games as well as I know I can. Or maybe its all in my head and I'm actually ****

I agree with whitecrook. We have 40" tv connected to our ps3 and it is a nice experience in a dark room couple of feets away from the screen. Whereas our pcs are just connected to pc monitor. I think it has to do with practicality.
First of all it would be difficult to play a pc game properly on such a big monitor at very close range as you will have difficulty pointing your mouse in the desired direction in fps as I found out.

Secondly at close range it would be difficult to absorb all the details and happening especially around edges. Maybe an enemy popped out from the edge while u were busy concentrating on the action in the centre of the screen and your eyes missed such enemy.

So big tvs are good for consoles at a distant range.
Small monitors good for pc at close range. (You can observe everything clearly);)

ahh well you see im lazy and sit in bed about 6 metres away from the screen, it is hard to play fps etc sometimes but i still manage it by sitting nearer, its just my rooms very small for a chair and desk im afraid, so a big tele at the end of the bed was the best option xD

good to know that its not just me using them though, i see ur point for most of the things, but the screen really does work well my end!

fairplay its something i havent really researched, i was just thinking having a big screen to see things better may be a good option!

i use both.. i do notice my 24" monitor has better response time and refresh rate than my 46" tv. if you extend desktop and wave a window between the 2 screens you can easily tell the monitor is much quicker. Not sure with plasmas as never tried one but 600hz sounds nice and dont be fooled by this 100hz malarky on lcd tvs.

I also use Both, my htpc is pretty powerful and is able to game no probs ona 46'' screen and i also game on a 20" upstairs (although A 27" is opn the cards)

An awful lot of tvs have high input lag which means if you are playing in FPS games online your enemies will have a great advantage.

Also the image quality is better on monitors especially if IPS panels, a 30 inch monitor will be best available due to the res and IPS which can't be had on a tv screen.

IPS isnt exclusive to monitors, if that's what you mean. panasonic, lg, sony, they all produce ips panels. it's only the resolution that's lacking but then i guess thats the difference between a £300 32" tv and a grands worth of 30" monitor.

Problem for me is that I need my monitor for 'serious' gaming (sitting close, true 120hz, low response time etc). Also for general non-gaming use like surfing, reading documents etc a monitor is likely better.

I would like to game on a bigger screen for 'casual' gaming (singleplayer etc) but it would be a lot of hassle/cost to set that up. I have a 46" 1080p screen in the lounge and I'm sure games would look great on that in spite of the 'low' resolution relative to size.

I have a 50inch panny plasma in the living room http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_...pecification/870440/index.html?trackInfo=true and for my pc games to look good you need to be sitting about 8-10 feet away minimum otherwise they just look awful. Hence why i use a 1080p 22inch monitor. I must admit tho the plasma is a very good screen and brilliant for console gaming altho i still find myself using my monitor more and more
