The new nvidia 174.53 beta drivers have a host of desirable features added, unlike the latest drivers for the 8 series/8800gtx.
I think the 9600/9800 use the same GPU as the 8800.

Surely the 8800 can do the following too:
Added new PureVideo HD features for GeForce 9800 GX2:
Dynamic Contrast Enhancement
Dynamic Blue, Green & Skin Tone Enhancements
Microsoft Vista Aero display mode compatibility for Blu-ray & HD DVD playback *

I'll try later, but the 9600/9800's do have added features I think, the 8800GTX is not the same gpu as the 9 series, thats the newer 8800 series (GT/GTS G92)

Ahh Purevideo2, that maybe it then.

As a hd film buff, these new features look interesting.
Vista64 wmc still cant play hd films properly though lol.

Last set was last year which says it all.

They now want you to buy their price hiked 8800's, so they will try to force you to do that by stopping drivers for the ones you already have, but its a waste of time, as you all know you are still getting driver support, their 9's are just your 8's, so when they sling out a driver just for the 9's, just mod the .inf with the 8 number, and there you go, just diy, and it beats paying a higher price for the cards you already have. :D

It is abit of a **** take that NV are no longer doing drivers meant for the 8800 series, I know we can easilly mod them, but it just shows how NV dont want to support the 8800 series anymore and might aswell say get shut of yer 8800 card and help us milk it by buying a 9800 card!!

Yeah, and there wasn't that many drivers for them to begin with, as when they released them, they didn''t support them for 6 months because ATi delayed their R600's, proper taking the **** they are, the amount of drivers they have done for their 8 series you could probably count on one hand.

Certainly not a patch on ATi, ATi wipe the floor with these jokers in driver support, a full WHQL set every single month without fail, and they support all their cards, not just the cards they have just released, none of this having to wait for leaked ones lark, and having to mod em to get your support.

This is something I have been unsure about too. Has anyone with the newer 8800 cards got the new dynamic contrast features working etc in the drivers? Then and only then, I think my mind can rest knowing it's only for the 9xxx cards.

Sorry, I just love my HD and blu-ray movies too much :p

That's exactly why I want to get an ATI card at the moment, because Nvidia are being lazy, greedy buggers.

Hey guys, maybe the 8800 cant do these new features.
I'm trying edit the inf so as to install the 174 drivers on the 8800 with 9800 features.
That or edit the 8800 BIOS & call it a G92, I dunno?

Not wanting to turn this into an Nvidia bashing thread, their driver support is terrible.

I just hope ATI brings out a card that will have them reclaim glory, because their driver support is brilliant, every month.

OK
I changed the following in the nv_disp.inf for my 8800gtx & found the strings in the registry:

%NVIDIA_G92.DEV_0604.1% = nv_G9x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0604
to
%NVIDIA_G80.DEV_0191.1% = nv_G9x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0191

This edit fooled the driver into thinking my 8800gtx was a 9600 I think, if thats what a nv_G9x is? I did not try changing the nv_G9x_HD as that may be for a dual GPU card?

Also for good measure I edited the modes.txt & added:

// 0191 - NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX

Now, screenshots of the 173.53 driver installed on my 8800gtx & the options are different as shown, but are these the 9x features? Does anyone have a 9x card to compare?

On the first screen you have there, with the Saturation, Hue etc..., below those you should have the Dynamic Contrast Enhancement to select, but its greyed out, well it is in the 174.70's. :)

Actually if i select With NVIDIA Settings, the Dynamic Contrast Enhancement ungreys, allowing it to be selected, also the skin tones one, is called Colour Enhancement, so yes, the 8800's have those features as well. :D

As you can see, those features are there, the Colour Enhancement option, is the Dynamic Blue, Green & Skin Tone Enhancements, as thats what the desription says when you put your mouse over it.

Nvidia owned again. :D
