I was just wondering why OcUK dont list 4000+, 4400+, 4800+ x2 am2 processors?

Sure there must be a reason, funny how thier all 1mb cache cpus they dont list apart from FX62?

Im looking to stick with AMD for my much needed upgrade and id be going for one of these chips, rather not buy from else where if i can help it!

Just read, because of AM2s use of DDR2 memory 1mb L2 has no performance benefit over 512kb L2, then read the opposite somewhere else lol

I did a forum search and didnt find anything hence posting.

AMD are phasing out 1MB cache in the Athlon line (tough the FX stays the same as do Opterons) It increases yield for less cost basically.

That's what I was thinking, the extra 512KB or cache adds about 50% to the size of the chip. Reducing it to 512KB means they can make 50% more chips per wafer, for little drop in performance (less than 10% anyway).

Wouldn't surprise me if this is in response to Conroe.

Any idea of the Opterons will retain it?

Jokester

Opterons will still retain thier 1mb cache per core.

AMD have been loosing out on money because ppl, especially in the CAD/DCC/VIS business have been buying the X2 range of CPU's rather than the Opterons because they are pretty much identical but cheaper.
