why don't Overclockers stock PC games?

I'm getting sick of seeing games shops not stocking PC Games anymore. Grainger games up here in Cramlington had 0 PC games in. Fek em i say!

Consoles are pants! I still don't know why to this day why i bought an xbox 360, biggest waste of money ever. game control is just poo!

I try not to buy off steam etc as i like to have something physical for my money.. I do sometimes buy cheapo games off there like Torchlight etc..

I second this. Places like Gamestation, Game, HMV, etc just have a couple of shelves for PC games. It's all console, console, console.

On the note of people with slow broadband, not one to brag but having a 50Mb connection is handy. I downloaded Shattered Horizon in less than 20min. Not bad I think. But like most on here, I also prefer to have a hardcopy of a game. Especially when you want to display them for all to see :D

After getting annoyed at lost discs and hard to find patches I am going to Steam route from now on, it is just annoying that it isn't the cheapest place most of the time. But some of the deals make up for it.

Anyone that is into games most likely has the net.

I think OcUK like to stock the higher end of the market, by doing so you shift less numbers but with greater profit, it isn't really the style of computer game stores. People just want choice and for cheap. OcUK probably couldn't compete without a lot of effort that they don't need or want.

Up until maybe 6 months or so ago all 3 of those stores in my home town had shelf upon shelf of PC games, GAME having the most with a whole wall dedicated to them. Now both GAME and Gamestation have only a tiny section tucked away and really hard to find unless you know it's there, neither of them stock the new games anymore unless specifically asked to get them in and HMV who in the summer had a section that was equal in size to their console ones now have removed it completely and no longer sell them. Even Tesco stopped selling them recently too.

In some of the larger areas they have a bit better stock but it's still dire and for all intents and purposes it's looking like the proper game stores are starting to phase them out completely. I haven't been in any of the shops in the city for a while but thats the way it's looking in my town and the other nearby ones.

You can back up your downloads to disk you know...

He also said he doesn't like downloading such large files. Nor do I to be honest.

A lot of ISPs also have download limits unless you pay full price for the unlimited packages, sure some may be cheap for this sort of service but not everyone wants it.

A lot of people still buy games from the high street or physical copies online so I really don't think "in a few years" everyone will download.

Also bare in mind while others have great amazing internet connections there are millions of people who are far from the local exchange which cripples peoples internet connection.

Even if you pre-download a game at an awful half a mb speed it isn't worth the fuss when you can buy it out right.

Maybe in 20 years things will change ;)

Several competitor's being mentioned and quoted!

Well done Sherlock.

i would have felt like i wasted money on my ps3 thankfully its useful for blu :D

Thats true. most folk i know only use it as a bluray player.

I think its safe to say that these retailers are only interested in selling to the no brainers. Its true that they will supply to the biggest market. Unfortunately for us there are **** loads of consoles about these days. Cost comes into play too. Not everyone will pop even a grand on something to play games. My gripe is with games stores clamining to be a games store yet stock 0 PC games. I'm tempted to talk to the manager and get his reason behind it. I have a Wii too, it is fun for the occasional blast in Mario kart with m8's but i won't buy any games from a company who doesn't sell PC games. The others will get my money.

Competitors my arse!

I'm fond of the Steamworks games, they give the advantages of using Steam but you still have the option of installing off the original disks, saving a lot of downloading. Plus if something happens to the disks you can just install the game by downloading.

I used to hate steam because I wanted a physical object to show for my money but I bought deus ex on steam at Christmas for £2 and have never looked back.
The games are just a double click away, always updated and my wife loves the idea of no more boxes cluttering up our house.
I am converted.

Enough to annoy my wife.
I can understand why people want to have a physical bos but when I realised that most of the time it just sits on a shelf I started to enjoy steam.
What I did love was the old style PC games boxes like falcon 4.0
I still love the big boxed, big manual and all the other extras.
But those days are gone now.
Now all I have to do is start my PC, start steam andjust doubleclick a game to start.
Even easier than console gaming.
It's true that console gaming for me is killing gaming overall.
I bought a PS3 for GT5 about 8 months ago and look how that's turned out.
When I play batman :AA at 1920x1200 with everything maxed and physx on for £24 at release, I feel sorry for console gamers.
They don't realise that Microsoft are fleecing them dry with overpriced DLC and charging for peer to peer online gaming.

Steam games are often more expensive than retail. I would doubt a company like play would agree with you on that statement.

P.S. Before anyone comments , I buy retail and off steam so I'm not biased to any in particular! :p

depends when and how you buy them if you can wait a bit you can get it cheaper then retail its all bout timing and a bit of bargain hunting :D :D and i buy retail too typically from asda/tesco/morrisons

The best times to keep an eye on Steam is during holidays, last year there was massive bargins to be found during Thanksgiving and over Christmas/New Year.

Oh, you mean, ****, HMV, Tesco, etc.?

Cm'on man, keep up with the rule changes.

*ahem* quoted from the rules:

You may discuss another company that sells console games or other products as long as:

* They do not offer console hardware or computer components as part of their 'core' business (this includes many high street games retailers).

You can do it with all steam games including steam it's self.

You can either back each game individually to disks (right click game in library and select back up) etc or you can just go to program files and copy the whole steam folder.

paste steam folder into new pc after reinstall etc and you don't evenm have to reinstall the games just run steam.

Aha nice, Didn't know this, apparently you can do it with WoW aswell, Will have to copy over to my external.

I like going out and buying games I see steam and others alike as a great idea as it is very convenient, however you don't get the idea of content

I mean take stalker COP the special edition, look what the hard copy comes with :p and its at the same price as steam i think no wait I lied :D
