Why has Micro SD seemingly disappeared?

My Note 10 is serving me well but looks like the latest flagships have improved camera performance to a point where I'd consider an upgrade.

However. It seems other than Sony nothing else has Micro SD capability any more.

Does no-one care for the MicroSD? Are you just uploading to cloud?

Your comments echo my thoughts. Personally I think it's a backwards step, and something that has been designed out purely for financial/commercial reasons only.

I don't want to be using paid-for cloud storage. I'm also on a cheap PAYG so don't have unlimited data.
I like having my archive on my phone that I can instantly access, for posting online (I'm a motorsport photographer).
I don't want to use a plug in storage, I'll likely damage or lose it.

This is the direction so will obviously have to deal with it, but I don't know what is best so I don't end up left behind using a 10 year old phone lol. I'm thinking probably as big an internal as possible and maybe a Synology personal cloud - just concerns me how much data I might use accessing it remotely, also speed as I don't want to be waiting ages for thumbnails to load.

What's the raspberry PI NAS? That easy to use?

I'm surprised more of you aren't filling up internal storage. For me with a young family, it means many photos and videos at 4k - several GB/month. I also have a few GoPro's which footage gets proceed through the phone - again chews up a lot of storage.

Am I weird that my phone has every photo I've ever taken on it? Since around 2004 which I first got a "smart phone". It's archived in folders yearly/monthly so can be easily and quickly accessed.

So for me I like having a lot of capacity, microSD card is great for this kind of storage, keeps everything together. The whole phone and microSD is periodically backed up to my main PC, kids photos backed up to our Synology cloud.

What is the alternative? I like Synology but it's slow compared to microSD, especially when out and about.

Maybe I just need/want way more storage than the "normal" person.
