Why have certain CPUs increased in price?

It's the same reason most things are going up in price. It's pretty much down to the exchange rates. Intel sell them in dollars, so if the pound is weaker, the price goes up.

Cheers, seems best to hold off then for the time being. OEM 6850Ks were 509.99 last week.

Holding off till exchange rate improves is a fool's game. The market will move the way it moves, if you need something it's best to buy it today rather than to try pre-empt the market. The number of times people have done that only to find it get even worse...

This. We're not going back to the $1.50 of last month (let alone the $1.57-$1.72 of a year or two ago) any time soon.

Might as well forget last month's prices even existed.

Even if exchange rates do get better, businesses will never reduce them so quickly if they're still making sales. The price is what it is, if it is putting you off then you should seek an alternative or think about whether you really need it.

Brexit hysteria. Even though nothing has actually changed yet and won't for at least 2 years.

It's not "hysteria".
It's uncertainty.

Precisely why it will only get worse for the next two years....

We need to be either IN or OUT of Europe very quickly. Dragging it out will only weaken the pound. I don't even care which way it is anymore. I just want a resolution. That way the pound can recover.

Especially the flagship Broadwell-e series price increase.

Are they selling like hot cakes? :D
I don't if there selling like hot cakes...

But I hear they ran hot enough to cook some cakes....:p and the more you overclock them the faster they cook..:D
