Ive only just started playing a few days ago. Yet to have a go on all classes but I got my best score so far with a spy. Seems with a spy if the other team has half a brain cell you get caught out
Which is why for the most part you should only go in for the kill when your opponents are distracted by something else... naturally if someone sees someone running at them looking shifty they will shoot them... but if u have 4 badguys in front of you and u see a teammate too your side your not going to pay them much attention

In all seriousness, awesome game. I recommend the medic as someone else said; you'll learn maps quicker and also watch people using other classes so you get a good idea.
Fun classes are spy, engi, medic, scout (depending on what you enjoy doing).

Shows what the Soldier can do in the right hands, I still don't get why Snipers get 2 points for a headshot, if you want to top the leaderboards just play as one.

imo, and in response to question 1, is that there isnt 1 character that is best to play with they are all wicked (well 90% 
). Your right it is an amazingly fun game

I'm trying to kick my mmorpg habbit so would be gratefull for a guest pass from anyone for TF2/LFD. If its any good I was going to pickup the value complete pack

You dont even need to question the amazingness of L4D or the Orange Box, which is what I'd buy rather than the value pack. You'll not be dissapointed.
Edit: Value pack is 50+quid, Orange Box is 17, L4D is 27, yeah buy the Valve pack

Loling about the enemy base causing havoc as one of their own, eventually you get them shooting each other just to be sure.
Engineer, finding the best place to ambush with your turret.
Scout, using concussion nades to boost your jump height a little bit

As previously mentioned, good classes to learn the basics of the game are generally the ones that allow you the most opportunities to observe more experienced players, like the Medic or the Engineer.
You're thinking of the original Team Fortress game; grenades are completely removed in Team Fortress 2.
