Firstly I was never a fan of consoles, I had a Sega Master System II (the curvy one) a long long time ago but in all fairness I'd always prefered my PC for gaming.
Kainz on here had been going on about the Xbox360 for some time but the constant MSN barrage of 360 links, screenshots and "ooh its ace" comments didn't convince me.
The cost of upgrading/buying a new PC did.
My current PC works perfectly well, can play most games but it is starting to struggle, rather than throw £600-700 on a new PC (upgrading really isnt an option thans to motherboards etc moving on so much in 2 years). I went for the Xbox and joined the console crowd. I must admit, I haven't regretted it one bit and I've even found myself playing online FPS for the first time in a very long time
Reasons I prefer the XBox:
1. Plug and go, install and play, easy setup and easy to use. No faffing about getting updates etc, it knows what to get and with one click you have them downloaded. Essentially, ease of use.
2. Social aspect, I don't mean online. I can sit and play the Xbox with my mates, something I couldn't really do with the PC unless we made a LAN party weekend.
3. Less/no cheats. I'm not saying it's impossible to cheat online with a XBox 360 but I'm far less worried about it. Compared to Counterstrike etc on the PC which seem to be riddled with cheaping so and so's!
4. Cost. Yes cost. Game are slightly more expensive than PC but I'm finding a well known auction site is a good source for getting them for about the same price or indeed the members market here. I don't have to worry about continually upgrading my PC to "match" what other people are seeing. This was a major concern when playing games like MMORPGs, machine performance could effect the game far too much if your PC was behind spec-wise.
5. Space.. indeed! I'm actually now considering selling or replacing my PC with a lower spec laptop, ditching the desk and just having my Xbox and laptop in the living room. Currently my PC lives on a desk in the corner, I've never really liked this and the idea of having that extra space makes it very tempting to ditch it entirely! My PC is now only used for MSN, browsing, email and the odd file download. I haven't in the 3 weeks since I got the Xbox played any sort of game on it.
6. DVD player, the Xbox 360s DVD player turned out to be better than my own. The MS DVD remote is top notch and rather groovy looking so my DVD player has already been demoted into a box in the loft. I hadn't even considered doing this until I actually had the Xbox home! I've been told that this was a recent improvement to Dashboard.
7. Dashboard - it's fantastic, (see point 6.) and it just seems to get continually improved. I hope MS put the effort into this as it's a cracking system which I'm hoping will be expanded to include new features.
8. Network connectivity. I hooked the Xbox up to my XP machine within minutes and had my rather dodgy collection of MP3s happily streaming to it. I think this next laptop of mine might well have Media centre on it so it can combine even better with the console!
9. *mumbles at NokkonWud's post below* Fight Night 3 - Enough gaming reason to buy a Xbox 360 on it's own right there
Or PGR3 for that matter, there you go, out and buy two of them so you can play them at the same time. what you waiting for? get a move on!
I'm sure there's more reasons, but these are the main ones. I wub my Xbox, I wub my console, I can't believe I just said wub.
Enough rambling, I'm delighted with my purchase! and I was bored at work during lunchtime
