Why I hate vista...

So today I decided to bother to begin investigating why I got random resets and a BSOD a few times a day now!!!

This explains it all really..

So let me get this straight. You're having BSODs, and Vista tells you that the problem is fixed in SP1. But instead of just installing SP1, you'd rather come on a forum and bitch that your RTM version of an OS isn't flawless?

News flash: OSs don't work very well if you don't install any updates. That goes for Windows, Mac OS, Linux... using it as an excuse to bash Vista is ridiculous.

In my experience, most people who 'hate' Vista fall into two groups:

a) the people who have no problem with it apart from that they can't find things in the places they're used to. This isn't a problem with Vista. This is a problem with you.

b) the people who have barely used it, but have heard off their mate who's a 'computer technician' that it's rubbish, so it must be crap, right?

Nobody here has provided a coherent reason why Vista is rubbish.

Nobody here has provided a coherent reason why Vista is rubbish.

And they never will.

Too many people who 'think' they know a bit about PCs (innit) state opinions as fact, and will argue to the death that they are right.

Vista is a classic case of this.

I personally learned a long time ago you will never win an argument with an idiot, so I don't bother anymore.

Okay so I install Vista right like yourself, and then I try to ssh into my server and FAIL. Okay then I think well actually I need to ssh -X into my server FAIL. Okay I dont want a bloaty front end so I'll use something less bloaty FAIL. Okay no problem Java and Perl will atleast be there by default right FAIL. Okay well I'll just open a a text editor that has some idea about code by default, FAIL. Okay never mind, I'll start working on a word document by default - no wait FAIL it word is expensive.

And it just goes on and on and on and on that way

putty, xming, notepad++, remove your icons from your desktop. hide stuff in your task bar. working with office file formats needs office, which your place of work would normally provide you, oh wait you work for youself at home? buy the damn stuff then. or download java and open office.

MS would provide all this as standard but people like yourself who have managed to get into high powered places seem to think it acceptable to then SUE microsoft for being uncompetative

Vista is the best OS MS have ever made.

Its not perfect and no OS ever is but its biggest problems are:

1: It should have come with different useage profiles on install as some of its features are not required by general users. This contributes towards its bloated feeling on ancient hardware.

2: The majority of uninformed users find it easy to take aim and slate it when the truth is simply that they lack the technical knowledge to get the best out of it or because they think they are a know it all IT guru who installed XP so have now become an authority on OS installation:rolleyes:

OS installation on Vista can be very easy if you know what you are doing but if you try and tweak the wrong things after install thats when you can run into serious issues very quickly.

Windows 7 is most likely going to be dumbed down for the masses version of Vista with a few new features (Vista SP2 will probably add most of these anyway) and thats about it. MS are not stupid and will not be spending billions to create an all new OS when Vista is fine as is but has an identity problem so giving it a new name and tweaking it a little will do the trick they hope.
