I actually know the answer to his issue, i am no MS fanboy. But BSOD every 5 mins? Come on, windows is as stable as anything assuming everything is set up correctly.

BB, to clarify - office 2007 saves in .docx standard by default. Nothing whatsoever to do with vista, office 2007 is available for XP too. If you open it in 2007 and go "save as" you can save as .doc if you want to.

BB, you can download a patch to open/use it within 2003 (if that's what you're using) from the Microsoft website.

Thanks guys I couldn't do any of these things as my bro wasn't around to re-save and the doc was my CV so couldn't download any patches at work

Got someone to re-save though.

I would not be surprised if I had more computer knowledge than you..

I'd be incredibly surprised, given that a) it's my job, and b) I get paid a fair chunk to know a lot.

Given that I don't get stuck trying to manually install windows updates kind of gives me the edge over yourself.

really i spent about 1 hour installing etc, then the only problems i;ve ever had are a few **** drivers.

I've only had two BSODs in Vista.

The first (well, it was several) was when my old HDD died (since bought a new drive and got the old drive replaced by Seagate ) and the second was when I was using a corrupted 2GB SD card on readyboost (I was bored... ok!?).

I wish my time was that expensive. About two hours to setup with most of my programs installed. From the first OEM version to full updated sp1. I guess you need to know what you are doing.

Computer gaming.. As good as it is.. Can get tiresome sometimes.. It costs an insane amount to keep up to date with super parts.. I've still got an xfx 7800gtx (a present from XFX) after my mosfets set fire on my 6600gt

Wasnt meaning to sound in any way patronising, i have no knowledge of your skillset. I (i think faily?) assumed that if you were actually stuck with a SP on vista would probably put debian out of reach!

If you're talking about the other day, it was me, and you never did answer me as to how I could get AutoCAD and Photoshop working smoothly on Linux, along with a .docx compatible Word Processor, never mind my games.

I can't help what format clients bring things in on.

Its an unworkable, under-developed, overly complex OS from the basis of an average user.

It's XP that looks better and has new features, and is rock solid in terms of stability.
