I would'nt go for 64bit just yet, the reason being is that if all your softwear isnt running in 64bit then there is no point at all. The only softwear to run in 64bit is Windows XP x64 and Vista. The only real benifit to running the 64 bit version is you see about a 10% increase in performace with a 64bit OS.

However, drivers and support for 64bit are a long way off and some of your applications may not work with the 64bit version of Vista. I'm installing Vista 32bit first, then waiting for a year or two before 64bit takes off. It just hasnt taken off the way people thought it would. It seems that i have had no problems so far with 32bit support. I have been usiing a dual boot and i have had major problems with the 64x edtion of Vista due to drivers ect.

But i would finally say, lets wait until the 30th of Jan when most of the major companies will release drivers for both 64x and 32x Vista. Lets see what happens on that front.

WHY I AM INSTALLING VISTA X64...

ITS NEW AND ROX0RS - LOL

64bit will dominate.. its not a matter of if, but WHEN.

6-12 months, drivers will be readily available for older peripherals and new devices will have 64bit drivers as default.

I Cant justify buying 2 operating systems 6 months apart.

Whats the point of this thread?

The only reason not to go x64 is if your processor doesn't support it. Otherwise you're just setting yourself up for more expense when you upgrade to 4GB RAM.QUOTE]

I have a Core Duo, and i still wouldnt install 64bit. I have use XP 64 and Vista 64x and if anything i find 32bit runs smoother. Is this due to my point? All my softwear is 32bit, theres only one game out theres to my knowledge which supports 64 and thats halflife 2.

Untill the softwear comes out which supports 64 i will be sticking to 32bit Vista. Just sharing my point of view.

You can install Vista x64 now, or have to reinstall everything again when that game you want to play is optimised for 64 bit.

Saves you a hell of a lot of hassle. You've already said yourself that it offers a performance benefit, now you're saying x86 is smoother? Which is it?

Yes, i will have to wait 1 - 2 years before everything is optimised for 64bit thats why i'm not installing now.

Yes, i did say that there is a 10% performance benifit with using a 64x OS, but that is just using the OS alone. That was a benchmark score of 10%.

Using it with 32bit applications doesnt see any increase in performance, as all applications are in 32bit. Hence why i will not be installing Vista 64bit and using 32x Vitsa for the for seeable future.

If you want to waste money then waste money, There is no problems with the x64 drivers. 99% of 32bit apps will run fine and as fast on a x64 system.

Both are slick and x64 is faster. So why are you wasting money on x86

Why not, if you have retail, installing both copies in dual boot?

Then you can really see for yourself which one is better.

I'm not wasting my money thats why i purchased the business package which gives me both 32 and 64.

I am dual booting at the moment and i persoanlly think that 32bit is smoother due to using 32bt apps. Dont know why just do.

Thats cool then, but the smoothness is just psychological. unless anything major has changed since rc2

BF2 wont run on 64 vista
FIFA 2007 wont run on Vista 64
LOTRO Beta wont Run on Vista 64
the list goes on

They all work with the 32bit version

Can sombody tell me if they have a fix or solution for these games in Vista 64?

BF2 works on x64.. I had it running and joining games on RC2. Although the drivers meant rubbish fps, you just have to give it admin security or something.

I'm going to wait, probally be loads of exploits in regards to the anti-microsoft people finding flaws to harm peoples PC's etc, like when Windows XP was relatively new.

Also if some games dont work, I wont buy end of story untill it is fully compatable with games that have been released in the last 2-3 years.

I doubt the security situation will be anything like what happened to XP RTM and to some extent XP SP1. Vista is built upon Windows Server 2003 which has proven itself to be one of the most secure OSes, well, ever. That OS and Vista have a totally different development practice/methodology than what XP was developed under. Also around 90% of Windows Update hot fixes can be installed on Vista without any need for a reboot.

Windows NT has always been a secure platform it's just that with XP they had to turn the vast majority of protection off in order to complete the Windows 9x to NT migration. Back then that was a higher priority - not just for Microsoft but for everyone.
