Why is Amd not announcing anything

Nvidia must be kicking themselves, 20 million PS4's sold already that is a lot of chips for AMD to sell.

Wii U (Graphics chip), Xbox One, PS4 all have AMD chips. They don't need to launch their own console..

This is Nvidia's attempt at trying to enter that same console market but retain all of the profit, not just making the hardware but making money on the eco system as well. Latest consoles move to X86 (Finally) and Nvidia go to android!? Purely to make as much profit as possible.

Shield console just looks meh to me but it might do well with the Nvidia devotes. I imagine Gregster and Lambchop have already preordered. Kaap's probably going to buy 4 and will attempt to SLI them.

Nvidia knew full well the profit margins, development costs and minimum acceptable bid.

AMD have spent to long worrying about what Nvidia are doing, they need to look at their own product range and try and get back some market share. Which hopefully the 390X will be a beast and cheap.
Unfortunately AMD simply cannot win.

For example even if the 390x was like 20-25% faster than the 980 and priced the same, the ratio of people going between going for the 390x and the 980 will still be like 50:50 best case scenerio...and considering the cost of making the 390x would be high than the 980, AMD would still lose profit margin wise.

There are just far too many people who would buy Nvidia only, and not give AMD's offering any thought. Just think of all the threads by the average joes that asking about graphic upgrade Nvidia only that pops up every now and then...now think about, do you recall any thread AT ALL that people were asking for graphic upgrade ATI/AMD only? :p

yeah I'm sure they are

Only they already have two of them out there, the PS4 and Xbox 1, they have literally cornered the market (hardware wise).

yet here we are with living room streaming being the whole industries focus.

dedicated consoles are dead. the only thing that keeps them going is investment from microsoft and sony.

The end is nigh!

I joke they will never die but they aren't what they could have been.

I was discussing console sales with a colleague at work today who collects them, he reeled off some stats that was pretty impressive, 20 million ps4 sold worldwide, 10 million xbone, can't remember how much Wii u I think it was around 9 million, I thought wow that's pretty mad then he dropped the best stat, best selling console ever was the ps2, 155 million units world wide... Crazy.

i do personally think though that the Xbone while less units sold currently has the potential to pass the ps4 when they bring in dx12 if the ps4 does not have a fast enough answer to it

That is kind of a hole that AMD has dug for themselves though with diminished customer support, years of shoddy drivers, ignoring linux, less developer support and relations, worse marketing. Nvidia are much more likely to work with a game developer to improve performance and features and get the Nvidia logo slapped on the game title.

why are AMD not announcing anything??

To me it feels like they got diddly squat to announce. I'm actually incredibly bored at the minute, no news, nothing to get excited about, no drivers for over 2 months. AMD right now are pretty pathetic to be honest, seriously considering moving to Nvidia when something much better than the 980GTX arrives.

Titan-X just been announced, get your name down for a preorder :p

To be honest I don't think AMD felt the need to compete with the 9 series cards, only the 980 is better, almost double the cost of a 290x and to be honest won't even be noticeable in game.

The Ps4 is selling like hot cakes and maybe even faster than the Ps2. Some think this will be the last Gen of consoles but judging by the sales i can't see it. The Playstation division is Sony's biggest cash generator.

The issue is some areas of strength which Nvidia once had actually has actually lost their edge in the more recent times, things like drivers, performance with partners games (look at Ubicrap) and even frame pacing- which is one area they use to be better than AMD the positions have now reversed. But it doesn't stop Nvidia pass image from given the latest products the "halo effect".

AMD have improved greatly for drivers, working with developers and even tackled the frame pacing issue, but they are still stuck in the quicksand of a hole...seriously don't know what it would take to get them out of there, as long as majority remain buying Nvidia no question asked...

Arent amd doing their usual thing of keeping deadly quiet then boom big release?

Nvidia seem to be spamming releases as if it'll change things, but it happened to mercedes it can happen here is if they kill their branding of quality and reliability by being too money hungry it'll nearly kill them.

i'll be sticking with the good ol' 290x for a while yet though, need a cpu upgrade next regardless of how good the 390x is

I hope AMD has a great new products to launch But i would prefer inklings of what they are doing as to many it seems its no progress. But thats how they seem to work and we just have to accept it.

Since the majority of people go AMD for price/performance I doubt a card that's likely going to cost £1000 will bother them.

This really. AMD should stick to offering the mid range price performance cards as they can't compete with nvidia's top end. Also I don't see many people paying 1k on an AMD card even if they did offer one that beat everything nvidia offered.

Prices are insane now :(

Reliable boom as always.:D

Perhaps they simply have nothing to announce? Maybe the 390 spinouts aren't work well and need further revisions.

Needing further revisions :o, if that was the case, it won't be out until late 15.:p

390 is ready, it was finalised ages ago, it's in full production right now.

Their Mantle project failed so they don't want to make too much of a song and dance about that.

It gave the AMD crew a vision of superior performance this time last year of what Nvidia users won't get to see in games until very late this year/next year.:p

And handed the keys to Khronos-as originally promised-which the Nvidia cliché crew said wouldn't happen.:o

Mantle=successfully gave the industry a much needed jolt job done.

Nvidia knew full well the profit margins, development costs and minimum acceptable bid.

Nvidia don't have a SOC, they weren't in the running.:p

Most of all this.

It's time for AMD to stop following Nvidia about and concentrate on making AMD desirable again, they've missed the power envelope on this spin, but need to regroup and get the next gen spin right on all fronts.
