As per the title really, just wondered, apart from colouring your armor etc, what can you actually use dye for....and why is black dye worth so much??

I'm not complaining since I've just picked up a vial of black dye which I can selll for 6000gp :D Its just I dont understand why its worth so much for a seemingly irrelavant item!!!

Any ideas???

you just don't trust me at all do you? :D

Its not a trust issue mate, its just total bewilderment that you can get so much gold for something that is practically useless!!!!

I assume the price is player driven, so why do human players want black so bad???

;)

one issue I do have with buying and selling stuff in GW is how much you should actually be buying and selling stuff for. The merchant prices seem to be meaningless. It's very hard to know whether you're getting ripped off or getting a bargain.

My thought exactly. I had some sort of vamperic sword or axe that had a "value" of abour 180g (it was gold). Someone was looking for a vamperic weapon so i told them to make me an offer on it and they offered 6500g !! Now, i felt great about this but the thing might have been worth 1000000000000000g for all i know !! As you say, what's the point of a value system that bears no resemblance to what the item will sell for ??

Yeah that does annoy me a bit too, whenever i'm selling i just put and 100% markup on the vendors price and haggle from there.

If i'm buying then i'll offer 50% of what they're asking and haggle from there too :p more often than not GW is a buyers market so take advantage of it.

I'd like some black dye just because it looks sweet :p but i'm waiting till i get the best armour i can find. I was questing with a lvl 16 monk yesterday who had middle ranking armour dyed black, which i think is pointless as you'll only have it for a little while before its traded in for better stuff.

I just use what i pick up, hence why until lvl 17 i had some nasty yellow outfits :D i decided i looked like big bird so splashed out on some blue.

So if black dye is so sought after, am I better selling to a dye merchant or trying to sell it privately???

Like you say, no point using it till I'm on the top level armour!!!

If you want the money then sell it privately for a big heap of cash, post it for sale for silly money and see if anyone bites, then gradually reduce the price to more realistic sums if no one is interested.

Personally i'd keep it stashed for personal use, i've picked up a few silvers i'm keeping.

I know someone who found a black in pre searing ascalon and used the money to buy uber weapons and armour, thats worth doing i think.

The monetary systems changed greatly since the beta and beginning stages then.

Black dye would go for 200 max back in the day. Maybe less..

Black dye is a much more rare than the others, I usually just find yellow/orange. :o The best way to find black is to do the pre-seering run from the abbey to ranik, lots of dye drops there. :) Bit late now though.. factions tomorrow!
