Why is DDR ram still so expensive?

Looking to get some new ram for my Neo 4 Platinum and was horrified by the prices!

I could understand if they only had a few left in stock but everyone seems to have loads!

Anyone know why there is there a premium on old ram? Can an get 4gb of ddr 2 for the price of a 2gb ddr pack!

because when ram isnt mainsream making it isnt as cheap

Yeh, ddr was never cheap and when it went out of fashion its stayed expensive for the reason given above.

it went cheap for a while, but then shot back up again

now it will stay expensive until it's so old people give it away

pita, as i need 4x1gb sticks myself

It's still quite useful as a lot of (old) computers still use it though.

Yeah, a majority of the world surfs the web, chats, and checks emails with their PC. A nice clean install of XP with 1GB of DDR memory is plenty for all of that.
