Why is DDR so expensive?

Just looking at prices for memory and found 4GB DDR2 for £39.99 so I proceeded to look for a 2GB DDR Kit and they cost the same or more!

Why is DDR more expensive than DDR2?

The more rare an item becomes the more expensive it will be. Not many people have DDR systems as their main system now.

I have an old Geforce 4 64mb, 512MB SD-RAM system. Served me well. (That was irrelevant wassn't it?)

What applications do you run that use a lot of RAM? I'll bet they also benefit from a better processor...
