Why is DDR2 still more expensive than DDR3 ?

Production volume

Also newer generations of electronics are cheaper to produce, faster usually means cheaper....

I am ignoring the billions in r and d and fabrication plants but this expense is negated by the vast volume of product sold... The actual cost per individual chip raw material wise is usually lower

so bascily because thay cant put out DDR2 fast its more expenive (i find that kinda stupid )

They will be selling many times more ddr3 than ddr2 also I assume but don't know ddr3 is produced using a more advanced lithography ie smaller die... Even if it's not there is still the difference in volume

I remember watching DDR2 drop from £200 for 2GB to £20. It's supply/demand. As the product continues through its useful lifecycle, it decreases in price as demand rises, before it's replaced with something faster and more popular.

Agreed with all above. As a new ram comes out, and particularly now where more of the systems produced use 3 instead of 2, the newer ram will be produced more then the older ram so older ram is less in demand and higher price. Happens with all ram that I can remember.
