Simple question, why is it more expensive to buy the i975 than the i980x? they match each other in specs from what I can see other than i980x is 6 cores and has 12mb of l3 cache over the 8mb?

so why is the i975 nearly 13 quid more expensive?

I believe the i7 975 is basically end-of-life now, as its place of the "extreme edition" flagship has been taken by the much more powerful i7 980X.

However, OCUK will still have bought the i7 975 from their supplier at full price - and will want to sell it without losing money - however this does not mean it is worth this price.

Aye, but the i7 975 has always been a bad deal - its basically just a D0 stepping i7 (like the 920, 930 and 950) but with an unlocked multiplier. With the i7 950 going for £230 now, you would be insane to buy the i7 975.

The i7 980X however is a great chip, but very few people would fully use the power and the price is massive.
