We have no Ikea's nearby and I really want to buy a Jonas desk to go in my study but the prices for delivery are a joke.

Even if you want to buy a tiny lamp costing £4.99 and they charge you £30 for delivery it's daylight robbery.

I think I'm better to drive down to Ikea it will work out cheaper.

Probably because they don't post things, they deliver in one of their big ol' vans. I agree - it's annoying. I'd buy things all the time at Ikea online otherwise as I hate dragging myself down to their stores.

Well they send out a whole truck to deliver to all the area. So unless you are buying something big it's not worth it. However if you buy a lot, £30 is a bargain for delivery.

Big truck with one or two guys wages. Pretty cheap IMO. Ikea furnature is rubbish though, I'd draw the line at desks from them

Its to make sure you go to their stores... if you didn't, impulse tea light purchases would plummet and the whole candle making industry would collapse.

ikea just nightfreights 2 man delivery service and the cost of that is around £30 a delivery. I used to be the supervisor for nightfreights 2-man call centre.

The service is used by the likes of john lewis, ikea, bed companies and victoria plumb bathrooms

I went to ikea and chose the desk I wanted and the colour and legs (Galant corner jobbie with an extension at each end) but the warehouse I've always found to just make me rage and you just know you'll miss one of the boxes, so I went home and ordered it online. It was expensive the delivery, but:

Credit where credit is due: Ikea Online.

During the week they texted me with a 4-hour delivery window of this morning. Then this morning they rung saying that they're 50mins to 1 hour away. And now it's just gone half past eight and they've delivered 9 boxes of goodies to me :D.

I disagree, Ikea furniture is miles apart from the highstreet stores, the price is cheaper and the quality much better. I have the Ikea modular desks here, and they are spot on.

That is the nightfreight service.

the whole point of ikea is flatpack (so it fits in your car) and the browse about / pick it your self from the warehouse way of shopping.

The vans are also flat pack so they have to send in a crack team of swedes to assemble it in record time.

multiple galant desks, expedits and other furniture from Ikea Bristol (nearest) to Plymouth, is only £35 though... Would cost more in petrol (and I'd never fit it in my car, so there's van rental to add).

It's only expensive if you live close by :D

This made me :D - the bottom kitchen drawer when I lived at home was FULL of ikea tea lights, mum bought them every times she went! Now she's more into those scented ones in glass jars, gets those every time she goes!
