Why is it expensive to buy monitors directly from Dell and not so much from 3rd party

Happens all the time. Manufacturers don't want to **** off their distributors by undercutting them, so they will sell their products at the RRP, whilst supplying their distributors at a cost per unit that is (often significantly) less than the RRP, what price to sell at and thus how much profit per unit the resellers make is entirely up to them.

Basically businesses can reach a lot more people through distributors than by only selling direct, so it's more profitable for them to do it the way it is.

As to why it's so much more expensive direct, this is probably a branding thing, to try and make you think that the screen is "worth" £500 or whatever so that when you buy it at £320 it seems like a better deal than the similarly priced competition.
Alternatively the price of the monitor has dropped over time, but direct sales matter so little to them that they havn't bothered to update the webpage.
