I'm currently going through a pirate stage , wanting to play a pirate and sail the high seas however so far all that i've played has had it's flaws. The only thing that has come close is the classic amiga game pirates but it's very dated now. I played the cd32 version and the walking back and forth in the town is a little slow and it's too colourful plus the spazzing out ship combat. I then tried the dos version which i remember as being a good game but now i just can't stand the ugly looking sea map. To me it looks worse than the amiga version!. Tortuga is a nice game but you don't really play as a pirate but a pirate hunter and you can only have one ship against many at any one time.

Port royale 2 although to me is amazing it's no pirate game , it's a trading sim with pirates involved. For the last game i thought age of pirates 2 would quench my pirate thurst but apart from the amazing sea battles it's the worst pirate game i've ever played. Pirate ships avoid other ships and only head for you , the graphics in port are terrible , the fighting hand to hand is awful , the controls are naff and the list goes on. I end up playing for about 1hr and just getting fustrated!.

The remake of sid mier's pirates i thought was a huge dissapointment , granted the sea battles were fun but the entire game is like playing a cartoon and constantly having reborn dead enemies is pathetic. How many times do i have to kill that baron just to get that map only for him to have a brand new instant top of the line galleon . I don't even look like a pirate just some bloke straight out of a disney cartoon , don't even get me started on the dancing.

This would be my type of game
a) A ship travel map out of port royale
b) When you visit a town you get a view point like sid meiers pirates(amiga)
c) Sea combat out of age of pirates
d) Treasure hunting ( sid meiers pirates(amiga) )
e) Oh and blood , proper hand to hand fighting

You never really feel feared in any of the pirates games , anyway that's my rant i'm sure i could go on and on :D

What it needs is for Rockstar to make an 18 rated Pirate game using the GTA engine. That would be pretty cool :)

:D

Here's a game i think i need to try and it's an old one though , just googled for best pirate game :o

You are a 17th Century pirate in the Caribbean. You can do all kinds of pirate things: rape, pillage, capture ships, receive letters of marque, burn towns, kill civilians, loot houses, recruit other pirates, look for buried treasure, sell stuff you capture for pieces of eight, etc. :)

Summary

Worst pirate game ever.

:(

Monkey island does not have ships you sail around in and loot/capture other ships , Monkey island does not have blood , Monkey island is an adventure point and click.

How does this relate to Monkey Island lol

Pirates of the Caribbean or age of pirates is just as bad as age of pirates 2 , horrible interface and hand to hand combat e.t.c

Captain blood i'll keep an eye on :D

It's pretty much the same as age of pirates 2 http://www.ageofpiratesthegame.com/ , i remember because i've played sea dogs 2. Although i completed it , it wasn't an enjoyable experience. There is a number of things i really hate about potc and it's spin off games. Even AOP2 is highly modded now with lots of fancy bits but the pirates only chasing me and nobody else is just ****

heh maybe all i'm really after is a pirates remake from the amiga , a TRUE remake not some cartoon crap not a half assed disney job :(

One more suggestion: East India Company. The game has a couple of DLC, Pirate Bay and Privateer. I own both though haven't really given them much of a play-through yet (Another victim of the Steam sales). They seem to fit the bil for what your're after.

Very very boring i'm afraid , see that video i posted that's the new one to come out soon. Apparantly they've listend to the fans and overhauling the game :D:cool:

Possibly a stupid question, but have you seen the relatively modern PC version of Sid Meier's Pirates?
