Why is Longhorn still used instead of Vista?

Simply out of curiosity does anyone know why Vista is still referred to with its development name instead of Vista? This is what is listed for Vista in Everest Home on my PC - OS Name Microsoft Windows Longhorn Home Edition OS version 6.0.6000 (Longhorn Beta)

Mine states that Longhorn is the code name.

Code:
OS Name Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
OS Code Name Longhorn
OS Version 6.0.6000 (Vista Retail)

Are you sure you are running the retail version? If so, get the latest Everest version (4.0 I believe) as it may just be a bug.

i think i read they're aiming for 2nd half of 2007, they also have a 'server core' version now, which is really cut down, (no explorer even), will be manageable through mmc :)

all vista disks are retail.. its just the product key and the EULA that makes it OEM

If I look at PC System Info then I do get the following entry -
OS Name Microsoft® Windows Vista™ Home Premium
Version 6.0.6000 Build 6000
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation

I just wondered why Everest give a different listing entry than PC System Information? It could be as has been said that my version of Everest is somewhat stale, I think it's only 1.51.195 or something similar.
