As per the title.

Why are molex connectors so bad and why do we still use them?

They never line up and they pop out and I feel they're just generally bad.

So why hasn't anybody come up with a better solution yet?

I have a modular PSU and don't use any of them so the cables just sit in the box with the PSU.

I know what you mean about the connections though, they are a pain lol

i hate the old style ones with the white plastic connectors, they always get stuck and need the strength of a gorilla to get them out and end up ripping my skin off doing it

i got some black connector ones with my corsair psu and they are very nice and not too tight or loose, wish they were all like that.

Cheap and nasty connectors. The design isn't so bad, it's just that most of them are made to a price.

Perfect for mass produced consumer electronics, but I wouldn't want to board a plane that used them in it's wiring.

The old sytle white ones allow the pins to move and I've had a few break.

I've got decent ones on my new corsair PSU but they're still bulky and on the fragile side

Only problem with molex is the pins not being securely fitted on some of the older ones, this has caused me to kill a few cables but nothing world breaking. They just work, are cheap and i don't think ive ever had one fail on me from age or degradation.

They are more easy to DIY. If you want a 12v LED strip or something, just whack out a molex connector and solder away

They're a pain in the **** when connecting them, but they've been phased out. 4-Pin PWM style connectors ftw.

It's only the cheap/poor quality devices that I've struggled with in the past with MOLEX.

I connect a few molex's almost every day at work and never have issues with them not going in etc.

Same here, I don't think I've used a MOLEX connection for years!

Forced to use a molex (for a pci usb 3 hub) for the first time in yonks recently, and they do suck big time. Had to pull it out for re-fitting, and I almost broke the hub permanently, it was that tight. Had to get some araldite out to repair it.

Really don't like them.

Those 4 pin Molex connections have been around since the early 1960's. There everywhere from IBM PC's to BBC Micro floppy drives. They origin was 8" floppy disk drives. It's the cheap Chinese Molex connections giving issue, otherwise fine and I much prefer over Sata power connections that are fragile.

I never had any issues with them on HDDs, but on fan splitters and molex fans they always cheap out on the connectors and you end up having to fiddle with the pins to get them in.
