Why is multitouch so bad?

I've been playing with pinch-to-zoom on my Asus 1008HA and I have to say, it's shockingly poor. I don't think there's an adjective to describe the multitouch on this machine.

This leads me into another subject - what's the point? No one uses multitouch anyway since keyboard shortcuts are so much simpler.

Multitouch on Windows = :confused::eek::mad::(

Multitouch has a way to go before it is really usable on laptop or desktop devices.

It just isn't a particularly comfortable way of using a PC, lifting your arm to touch the screen is far less convenient than just using a keyboard shortcut, and over time your arms will get tired from it all.

It strikes me as something that's become popular recently from the iphone (and other moblie devices) and it's been applied without fully considering it's real-world use.

I saw a video that looked at use of touchscreen technology, and it concludes that separating the 'touch' from the screen for desktop use is the best option.

Having a seperate touchpad in addition to or replacing your keyboard makes the most sense, it's more natural to use and avoids arm strain.

:eek:. I really want that 10GUI concept - looks like it could be the future in 10 years time.

EDIT:
It reminds me of this:

You know what is really annoying? my touchscreen kit for my NC10 doesn't offer multi-touch.

I don't get arm strain using it with a stylus though, I now use it all the time. Looks daft but it is really useful! :P
