Hi.

The system is running Windows XP, specs below:

Celeron 1.2Ghz
384mb ram
integrated graphics 32mb

It is running amazingly slow, web pages lagging, any animations on pages lagging, now it would sound like graphics drivers are not installed bu they seem to be as when browsing web pages its not the sort of lag you get from no graphics drivers, it is also so slow, locking up with only like 1 or 2 apps like Google Chrome and my computer open.

Could the hardware be degrading after about 5-6 years? I installed XP fresh on it and its still crap, I dont think I need to install loads of drivers like for mobo and graphics as XP SP2 installs them themselve.

When I first got this PC like 5-6 years ago it was not so slow like this.

Any idea?

Thanks
Will.

As mentioned, it is the RAM with integrated graphics also taking a bit. I used to have a p3 system with 384mb of sd ram running xp. Any flash or java intensive site brought it to a crawl. It was fine for anything else.

Even if theres 167mb free, whats the pagefile usage?

It's too old and weak to run XP and what ever else. Spend £100 to upgrade.

As I said, read the OP, that is incorrect since P3 900Mhz with 384mb of ram at my old college ran it fine and if you read the OP you would see that it did 5-6 years ago on the machine.

Page File usage is 307MB.

This PC used to run fine, never used to lag as bad and RCT2 used to be perfectly playable, now thats laggy too.

Well 1GB might be a bit of an exaggeration, but 512mb is needed. I have a Dell p4 system at home and it did benefit tremendously going from 512mb to 1gb though. (clean xp install, no dell crap)

But what programs were you actually running on that?

Web browsers, like I am now, media player, crappy AOL software then, RCT2 etc... At one point I even had Windows Blinds on with crap loads of other things, was not as slow as it is now, I cant work out why its so slow now when XP is using way less resources than it did at the time.

So does XP SP2 need loads more power than XP without any SP?

It might just be a phsychological thing perhaps. I'd imagine you find single core systems unbearable like I do. I bet I'd break my computer if I had to go back to a 2mbps internet conncetion as well.

Well, I really don't know, but considering its an extra amount of Mb's to load/install.

XP SP2 always runs incredibly quick for me, until I start loading Windows Updates, Drivers, SP3, etc. onto it. Although, everyone experiences that of course.

Gotta be a joke topic, nobody is that stupid. Obviously the PC needs upgrading or putting on windows 98 or something

Joke topic?

You sound like a joke posting that crap  If I knew it needed upgrading I'd upgrade it, I know it does not need upgrading for what I wish to use it, but I think you are the kind of person to think to think I want to run Crysis on it or something....... You think someone who built the PC in my sig wont know if a rig needs upgrading or not? You need to learn abit more about someone before posting silly comments.

Yet another person failed to even read the post, if you are not going to read the OP GTFO

Last time, I'll spoon feed the OP to you..

The PC has never always been this slow, it was perfectly fine for web browsing and general use when I first got it, this was with 128mb ram, I upgraded it to 384mb ram, RCT2 was never laggy, it is now,

The PC came with Windows XP, 128mb certainly is not enough to run XP properly but I can say for a fact 384mb ram minus 32MB is enough to run XP smoothly, I don't know why it is laggy now, all I know is it should not be.

I did not ask for stupid trolls to come into this topic and post and not even attempt to read the OP.
