Been using Chrome for years now with no particular issues. I've not got loads of extensions added to it and it used to fairly whiz along with nothing to complain about speed wise. Then last week I noticed that it started to take a good 15-20 seconds, sometimes longer, to open a web page wheras before it was pretty much instant. And even when the web page eventually opened, it then took another 30 seconds to a minute to fully load the page. Sometimes the pages will only partially load, leaving great big bits of it missing and just showing white space. Hitting F5 eventually wakes it up into loading properly. It hasn't got slower over a period time which would lead you to believe it maybe needed a little bit of housekeeping done, its like its suddenly got slower overnight, literally.
I've Googled the issue and there seems to be a fair amount of folk complaining of this. The main fix would appear to be go into settings and disable hardware acceleration. But mine has been running with that setting disabled for months already. I've tried clearing the browsing history, cookies, cached images etc and that didn't help. Then I read that if you disconnect your Google account that it fixes things. Didn't work for me. I then got paranoid and ran various different scans using MalwareBytes, SAS and Avast in case something nasty was lurking under the hood but they all came up clean. Finally, I bit the bullet, backed up my settings and uninstalled Chrome then reinstalled it again. No difference.
The weird thing is I have IE and FF installed and both open the same web pages instantly with no problem. As much as it pains me to do so, I'm now considering ditching Chrome altogether and using IE (Oh noes!!) or jumping to FF.
Has anyone been having similar issues and managed to fix it? It's utterly, utterly doing my head in.
